Sometimes all you need is the sound

Some games are satisfying, not for unique play (match 3 is a match 3 after all) but because the sound effects are so satisfying. I have no idea why they chose the sound effects they did, but it works and can be very cathartic after a long day. :)

Servers closed!

Just wasted $40 and a couple of hours downloading a game that is apparently finished, the servers are closed and I can't even get into the game, it's just a "goodbye fans" message.

DON'T DOWNLOAD!!

Be a King: Golden Empire

Boring!

One of the most boring games I've ever come across. It's suitable for a five year old I guess. Nothing intuitive here at all.

Royal Detective: The Lord of Statues

Truly a most pleasureable experience...

Well, as much as I am about to rave about this game, I must say the bonus chapter was fairly short and ended rather weakly. It did have different locations and a few pretty good puzzles. The main game has a conclusive enough ending; the bonus play does nothing to enhance it. The SE would be quite satisfying, IMHO.

Now for the raves...
This is a beautifully presented, well structured game with some very unique use of inventory items. It was truly enjoyable to play.

Play in Hardcore, and this will be very much an adventure. Take notes, there are a lot of locations and tasks. There is a map that will transport you from place to place, but in Hardcore the map does not indicate where there are achievable objectives. Play in Casual or Advanced using the map, this game will be much more about the puzzles and the HOs, than the tasks, more an activity than a memory game.

Either way, there is no denying how stunning this game is, visually, and in content. Except for one transition I thought was obscure, the game flowed comfortably along, aided by a captivating story.

This was one of the more satisfying games I have played in recent weeks. I highly recommend it.

It's a nice-looking, OK game

Pros: I like the cartoon style of animation, appealing scenes, interesting stories, some good puzzles.

Cons: Slow-moving characters (really - they just mosey everywhere - you can skip some long walks with a double-click but sometimes you just gotta put on some tea while they walk from one end of the screen to the other); incredibly long dialogues which fortunately you can skip with a double-click once you've read the subtitles; some puzzles are tough and illogical.

Diverting enough, but not great.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

A little Pricey!

Not a bad game, the graphics are as expected from an older game but the small annoyances and tedious actions make this game slightly irritating but yet its potential and interesting story twists make the game worth playing!

Q.U.B.E.
 –

Fine in its own right, terrible compared to Portal

It's hard not to compare Q.U.B.E. with the Portal series. You wake up in a sterile environment and have to solve 3d movement puzzles to get out.

After Portal 2 this game was terribly disappointing, but in its own right, it's OK I guess. The puzzles are OK, but they are not very original. Most puzzles are just 2d puzzles similar to Sokoban or Atomix. There weren't many puzzles that challenged your 3d problem solving like Portal did.

And the puzzles involving magnetism are so extremely annoying! You figure out what you are supposed to do, but still can't solve the puzzle because it all comes down to pushing buttons with extremely precise timing.
Basically it doesn't even have a storyline so you are not motivated to complete an annoying puzzle other than to see what the next annoying puzzle is (in the Portal games you gladly solve ANY puzzle because you really want to destroy GLaDOS:)

However, this game is not expensive and I kind of enjoyed the few hours of play time I got from it. Just don't compare it to Portal:) The game runs fine without any crashes on my 2012 MBA.

Smart and beautiful

Very unique gameplay mechanics! Thinking about the various forms of time manipulation really challenges your notion of time and space. The implementation, the visuals, the music, the story is also amazing. You hear people say that "Braid is art", and it's hard to argue with them.

The play time is not that long, but the puzzles are all unique, there are no fillers or repetitions. The price is also great for the value.
It's a game that everybody should play once in a lifetime.

Sid Meier's Railroads!
 –

I was expecting something more challenging

It's fun to play with for a couple of days, to watch your empire grow and the money flow, but it not really challenging and get's repetitive after a while.

Also, I find it too expensive. I'm okay with buying a game for 10$ that I can enjoy for a few days, but I expected to be busy with this piece for weeks.

Game runs fine on my 2012 MBA, no crashes.

Borderlands 2

Single player (4.5 stars) + Multiplayers and DLC (1 star) = 3 stars review

For the single player experience, it's a near five stars game : The game, in itself, is really good, cartoonish graphics are great, gameplay is fun, and this game has an excellent replayability.
The only drawback is that the Mac port (I also played it under Windows) is way more demanding than the Windows version.

For the remaining, it's a 1 star game, except if ALL your friends are gaming on a Mac :

- Multi-player is still not working between OSX and Windows : It's been like that for weeks, and the game was advertised WITH multi-platform play (I know... "it's coming"... yeah...)

- I bought the Carnage DLC : $10 is overpriced for a few quests and some arena-like fights.

The Walking Dead

Perfect story

Your choices might not have much impact on the ending like in Heavy Rain - but they affect how the other people see you. You build fantastic relationships to the characters in the game - I'm talking about YOU, not your character Lee. YOU. I caught myself crying at the end of the game.

The Book of Unwritten Tales Deluxe Edition
 –

Great classic point and click adventure

This game offers lush environments, interesting characters and engaging challenges in the classic point and click tradition. If you enjoyed games such as the Monkey Island series, King's Quest series (back in the day), and/or Discworld series this is right up your alley.

No distracting mini games or hidden object puzzles to detour from the logic and creativity required of this format. Quests are challenging, but not impossible and allow you a sense of accomplishment upon completion. Best game I have found in a long while.

Batman: Arkham City Game of the Year Edition
 –

Unbelievable Beat'em-Up-Superhero-Skneaky-Mega-Action!

In my eyes Batman Arkham City is just one of the best titles I have played so far in my entire gamer-live. The story is great, exept from some repetitive sentences the inmates drop arround the city the dialogues are great fun, the fighting system is fluent and precise and you will use hours on the game for completing only the main quest which is enriched by the DLC "Harley's Revenge" and the arena-like "Riddler's Revenge", all the riddler riddles, collectables, sidemissions and the fun to just walk arround and boot inmates...

In one sentence: If you liked the Dark-Knight movie triology for batmans coolness, you will love the game!

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
 –

Great - but you better be tooled up...

This could be the best game ever - the storyline is fabulous, the characters and challenges imaginative and interesting. But dont take too much notice of the system requirements - they are ABSOLUTE minimum - My Macbook Pro at 2.4 ghz couldnt seem to synch. the voices - or cope with the constantly moving camera angles and jerky motion - which in the case of this game makes some of it virtually unplayable.
