The Journey Down
 –

Fantastic point and click adventure

There are some great point and click adenture games out right now (i.e. - Deponia, Kaptain Brawe, Machinarium) and this one fits right it. I bought it off the Mac App store a few months ago and wanted to give it a review here.

They've completely simplified the control scheme with "The Journey Down". Click anywhere and he walks there. Click on an object to interact with it, use it, pick it up, or talk to it. Using items in your inventory is very simple too. The inventory is hidden and when you drag your cursor to the bottom of the screen a little panel slides up. Really smooth animations.

The characters are 3D (which isn't my favorite, but for animation purposes with such a small team I understand) but it doesn't distract from the overall beauty. The backgrounds are lush and vivid. Wonerfully hand painted, incorporating small small animations that really sell the environment and make it a magical experience. I have to say I love, love, love that contrast between the nightime tones and hues and in the warm inside colors. When you get to the train station the animation is jaw dropping gorgeous.

The puzzles aren't overly obvious, but you won't be playing it for more than four hours.

Voice acting is top notch. Has a Jamaican/African feel to it (which is what they were going for). It's not as funny as Monkey Island or Deponia, but it has an interesting enough story what is the "Underland"? You let the audio play because want to hear what the characters have to say and how they'll say it.

The game is not the end of the story and they are currently working on part two.

If you are a fan of point and clicks, this is seriously a can't miss. Definitely a beautiful and unique game.

The Good Life
 –

Has massive potential

This is a fun, relaxing game, though, has a few bugs, water can swamp boat in high seas, sometimes my newly bought boat vanishes, i still cant figure out how to rescue people, but, its a relaxing calming game, and, with a few tweaks, could be awesome, needs a higher starting out fund, and, a home port i think, but, its playable, could do with a price drop my advice, mark this to get later when the glitches are fixed, it will be worth it

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition
 –

RE Graphics cards

I run the witcher 2 with only 256mb graphics card by selecting the windowed mode and then testing to see how big i can make it before it crashes, bit of a pain but the game is worth it. even on 800x600 it is still easy to see all the detail. But remember, its at your own risk if it won't work, personally i like a gamble. haha

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy
 –

GTA What Else?

It's GTA guys. You are free to do what you want and you'll really feel like you're in a movie.

Works well on Macbook Pro i7 8gb (I mean, you don't need all this power to run it. My former Macbook 2gb was running it just fine).
But, the game isn't as "neat" as the screeshots show. Expect aliasing.

Rage: Campaign Edition
 –

Fun, Generic

I tend to like arcade like ID shooters, having played their games since Doom 2, but this is the worst of their recent games. I would sugest quake 4 or doom 3 over this for an enjoyable single player FPS experience. The plot and monster designs are uninspiring compared to those games, but I still found this game enjoyable enough to complete. I was surprised to find this game had a lot of rpg elements like currency and purchasing upgrades which slows the game down compared to Doom or Quake. I actually had fun improving my vechiles, but in other ways this game was a big let down. It seems like the developers put exactlyero effort into the story, and the game ends anticlimatically without even a final boss fight.

Midnight Mysteries: Haunted Houdini Collector's Edition
 –

Midnight Mysteries: Haunted Houdini Collector's Edition

It is a fun game, seems to go by quick. But is a balanced game, as far as it goes for easy or challenging. I enjoyed the storyline, I dont think I wouild have paid the $19.99 I would have waited for it to go down to 13.99. But it is worth getting the "collector's edition" It seemed to make the game more complete.
Hope this helps
It never got any better, asked for my money back. Most of the game would not work. The parts that did, LAME!

Good twist on the galaxy game

Removing the tedium of collecting and allocating resources, building facilities and all those things game designers learned from Civilization makes for a really clever and entertaining game.

Stronghold 3 Gold (old publish)
 –

Not impressed

Stronghold is the best game ever created. Then they came out with stronghold crusader... absolutely amazing. Then everything went down hill. if you have not tried the first stronghold or stronghold crusader, then you are one of the lucky ones who will enjoy this game and not know what you are missing. But if you have tried the first strongholds then keep your money and don't disappoint yourself by allowing your true experience with stronghold be polluted by this new garbage. Please create a new stronghold with all the experiences of the old strongholds and give back to your fans!!

TRAUMA
 –

Short, quiet and thoughtful

This game has four chapters, each of which has a main ending and an alternate ending. It took me about about two or three hours to complete everything, but then it is inexpensive. There is no violence (despite the name!) but it may be a little too dark for younger children. It is really more of a hidden object game, though there is a small element of puzzle-solving. The images are carefully done, the voice acting is a bit solemn (in keeping with the storyline) and I would recommend it (given the price) for a few hours' quiet diversion.

The Book of Unwritten Tales Deluxe Edition
 –

Fun adventure game

I haven't finished it yet, but I just wanted to say it is a lot of fun and has good pacing so far. There's a lot of humor and some good puzzles. Nothing too hard yet.

The Chronicles of Shakespeare: A Midsummer Night's Dream
 –

Can't follow fairies

We were having fun until we had to follow the fairies. After many clicks on fairies lead us in circles my grandson clicked where there were no fairies and then we were stuck in a loop with no progress and had to start over. A map would help a lot.

Mahjong Dimensions Deluxe
 –

Mahjong Dimensions Forever!

I played this online so many times and it was limited to the timed game. I could only get so far and I would run out of time. Now I can play all the levels and it's so wonderful. I can even play without a time limit or pley a favorite level over and over. Plus it is nice for winter time there are snowflake crytals that make it snow for a while. It makes me feel jolly.

Luxor HD
 –

Luxor HD crisp fresh maps

The new maps are extra crisp in HD. This is so beautiful to see on my big iMac. Luxor is one of my favorite games. I hope they keep making more versions. I haven't got to the end of this one, but I do enjoy playing them all over and over, it's so good for my brain!

Pirate Poppers
 –

Pirate Poppers for Kids

This is the simplest version of the Luxor games. It's probably for kids, but it's still fun for adults to play. The cursor and treasures are custom for the pirate theme. Lot's of flash fire and smoke. The sound effets and music match, as well. Arrrrg!

The Tiny Bang Story
 –

The Tiny Bang Story

This is such a lovely game, like a story book come to life. It was tough to find the last few items in spots, and I finally went to YouTube to watch a walk-though to figure out what I had missed. I was careful to only peek for the one thing I needed then I could continue on my own steam. I learned just how good I have it when saw how other people have to play with a bit of a lag...my iMac is so smooth, and responsive. I can jump back and forth between rooms without any delay. This will be a game I will play over again and again, like rereading a favorite book.

Solitaire 3D
 –

Solitaire 3D is a blast!

There are not only tons of game options, you can make your own deck, board, lighting or pick a different camera view. It is fun to change the way the cards are stacked and placed on the table, my favorite is "sloppy" so it looks realistic. Making changes is quite simple and versitle. I have made my own deck, on the front; new color, font type and size, on the back; I uploaded my own artwork. Then I made the board look like my own kitchen table. I love the sound effects when the cards are layed out. And the little bit of dust that poofs out when a card is placed on the aces up top is my favorite part!

Sid Meier's Railroads!
 –

Good game but crashes

I have a new macbook pro 15 and have been playing it in train table mode for fun. problem is as I get the rails and trains set up and running and begin to fine tune things it seems to get overwelmed and either shuts my computer down or just crashes. I can restart from the last save but once it starts that is it. Restart a new game and then it WILL happen again when along in the game enough.

Fix that and it will continue to be fun to play.
