Sid Meier's Pirates!
 –

Still a classic ...

This is a great game that was updated for a new generation of gamers. It is fun and unlike so many of the other games that places too much on graphics. The graphics a simple; the game is fun; and the gameplay is simple. I've played this game sine the original "Pirates!" back in the day and can say it is still fun.

The most unique part of this game is the total lack of linear gameplay. You really get to chose your path and get rewarded (or punished) for it.

There are some weird bugs that have caused my MacPro to crash — HARD. It has happeded sever times on this game and it has NEVER happeded with any other program.

The Silent Age
 –

Minimalist, Bleak, Time-Travelling Story About The End Of The World

The Silent Age is an interesting and somewhat original game that I thoroughly enjoyed. It has a very minimalist graphical design and a stark, electronic soundtrack, both of which give the game a foreboding, eerie feel. This perfectly matches the concept of the story, which is the imminent end of the world. I know, heavy right?

The game has an extra twist: time travel. Its use here is a particularly interesting concept that you'll need to solve puzzles and advance the plot, and I think it's pretty cleverly done here. I'll avoid giving out specific examples, 'cause then I'll just ruin the fun for you.

The Silent Age is not a long game. There are eleven chapters in total, some of which are quite small and not particularly difficult, so you shouldn't take much more than a weekend of relaxed playing to complete it. If I had shelled out more cash for the game I would have criticised its short duration, however the length pretty much matches the price, so I can't really complain.

I gave this game a full five stars, because the atmosphere and overall narrative were well done, the concepts were well cleverly implemented, the simplistic graphics actually added to the ambience, and the game duration matched the price tag .

Dark Parables: The Final Cinderella Collector's Edition
 –

Thoroughly enjoyed

Kudos to game designers on this one. The animation on all the scenes was very well done. Interacting with the wrong object didn't generate the same tired response, but was actually unique to the object attempted. Also to the game's credit, it was pretty obvious what object works with each intended scene. Hidden objects were pieces of objects needed in the game, not just random objects one would find in a junk room. The story was well thought out with assorted mini-stories within the game. Well worth the price of admission.

Crusader Kings II: Conclave Content Pack
 –

Good content, bad practice.

The stuff in the content pack is solid, but forcing the customer to buy all the content at once isn't really that great. Separate Music, portraits etc gave the player more freedom.

Nancy Drew: Sea of Darkness
 –

Fun in Iceland!

We really enjoyed this game, as we recently learned a bit of Norwegian for our visit to Norway. The language was similiar, so the language game was a breeze & a lot of fun! We earned lots of money, but forgot to spend it on gifts for Ned, got caught up in the game & only got him one gift. The story and charaters were interesting. The graphics & voices were great. The puzzles were sometimes hard, but really fun to figure out. The song was really pretty. We recommend this game to anyone who enjoys a good non-violent adventure game.

Nightmares From The Deep: The Cursed Heart
 –

4,5 stars

This is a game with pirates, kidnapping, supernatural stuff, love, ghosts, dark colours and beautiful glowing colours. Just like the other Nightmares From The Deep games and just as good.
The graphics are mostly crisp and clear, it got sometimes blurry in the cut scenes. Good sound and voice acting, but the lip syncing could have been a lot better.
The HOS are slightly interactive lists and fragments. The mini games aren't difficult at all.
The map shows available tasks, but it doesn't teleport. There are a lot of running back and forth. The hint is directional.

I had trouble with this game which made my head spin. It was when I had to prepare a green colour. I accidentally grabbed the paint brush and couldn't let go of it. While I was clicking, I happened to open the recipe and couldn't close it with the brush in my hand. I couldn't even open the menu or go back. I was stuck. Somehow I managed to click on the microscopic right spot, so I could move on. The exact same thing happened later when I was preparing something else. A tip is to not pick up things in the wrong order.

This game is very easy, the easiest I've played. Therefore I don't recommend it to challenge seekers, but others should try it. I will play this again when I want to relax and hopefully I won't pick up things in the wrong order.
