Legion Arena
 –

Great but very expensive

I've played a demo of this game in my old mac and I would have bought it had my mac meet the requirements.Had a resemblance to the original rome total war but not exactly.Because legion arena is more tactical than strategy.Nevertheless the joy is immense in seeing the battle play out in detail plus it is more on building up your army rather than your cities.I would have purchased it if the price is more reasonable.

Great strategy game

This is a very enjoyable game to play. The only reason I didn't rate it as a five star is because you can't view the battles in detail but other than that it is as immersive as the best strategy games come.

Hyperspeed
 –

Brilliantly Average

This game does not stand out very much from other space sims. The first thing to mind is "Elite" of which although technically more impressive, IMHO plays slower than, it's a great game though and there is a story, though you may not notice it for the longest tiime. Graphics are good for the time, and I think it's aged just fine, has that whole....StarFox SNES feel in terms of gfx. Pick this game up, especially if it goes on sale.

DiRT 3 Complete Edition

Awesome, does not get any better

I bought this with very low hopes that it would not play or render correctly on my Macbook Pro 15. I was wrong. Killer graphics, awesome rendering, barely any noticeable glitches. Action packed gameplay. I could give this more than 5 but that's not possible.
Only thing it, my laptop heats up a lot when running it, other than that perfect game.

Spirits of Xanadu
 –

Fun Space Shooter

First impressions... Spirits of Xanadu is an okay, but average space shooter. I'm having fun playing it, but I had to switch from Normal difficulty to Easy as it was pretty hard for me. You get pummeled sometimes by a lot of enemies at once. Even if you try to run, they'll hunt you down. You don't seem to die, but wakeup in a detention center for reasons I won't say. I don't want to spoil the plot for you.

My only issue, and it's not bad at all, is I wish the flashlight was a little brighter and reached further before fading out. It's useless in air ducts! I had to quit and continue my game from my last save point at the main menu, because I was lost in the blackness of an air duct. So far the game is dark and require the flashlight al the time. Unless hiding... :-)

There are save terminals in certain spots, but they are pretty close to eachother. But as I said, you don't really die, not yet anyway, so saving seems to be needed when you want to quit the game. I save anytime I see the terminals just in case I do eventually die! lol

I am not that far into the game, but it feels sort of old school compared to newer FPS games. That can be both good and bad. Depends on the player. I'm not going to say this is my final views of the game as I need to play it more. I just wanted to say if it looks like something you might want to play, then get it now on sale.

The game runs silky smooth at 1280x1024, medium shadows and AA turned on. I haven't tried any other settings as this is the default settings and it feels right. Once I turned on AA, it slowed down a bit. If I take the resolution up, I'm sure it will lag on my 5 y/o iMac.

Here are my system specifications: Apple iMac, i5 Quad-Core Intel processor 3.1GHZ, AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 1GB dedicated video RAM, 4GB system RAM, 1TB hard drive running OS X version 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard), Journaled HFS+ Extended file system, Logitech optical mouse.

EDIT: After playing the game a bit longer, and still having fun, I was able to get the lights turned on and can now see in the air ducts. If playing on Normal or harder difficulties, I can see these air ducts being essential to game play. The enemy can be ruthless! Still keeping my 3 star review, as the game isn't great, but it is good and fun to play. I may still change my views as I keep playing. I recommend getting this game if you are interested. Especially on sale!

Doorways: The Underworld
 –

More Good, Creepy Fun

This is the third chapter in the "Doorways" series. You can read my review of the first two chapters and apply most of those thoughts to this game as well.

This chapter is fairly short. I think I finished it in around 4-5 hours. The atmosphere is just as creepy as the first two chapters, but I don't recall there being as many torture scenes this time around, and I don't think there was any nudity in this one.

You spend a lot of this chapter running and hiding from two deranged-bag-of-flesh-monsters who will slash you to bits should they catch you. There are several stages in the game where if you don't run in exactly the right pattern, throwing switches as you go, you will be caught and dropped back to the last save.

Speaking of saving, this chapter and its predicessors, auto-save at various points along the way. The screen goes dark for a moment to indicate when this happens. This is also a good cue that you're heading in the right direction.

The fourth (and I believe last) chapter is not available at the time of this writing. Having enjoyed the first three chapters, I'm sure I'll sign up for the fourth as well. Same as last time, I'm discounting one star for shortness and excessive darkness.

This War of Mine
 –

Somewhat Repetitive & Boring

I'm trying to like this game, but being a 2.5D game just doesn't work in this game for me. If this were a 3D game with full exploration, it would work much better.

Right now, it is so repetitive, almost to the point of being boring for me. I'm sure some other people will enjoy this type of game play. I'll keep trying, but I am so glad I didn't pay full price for this game! It's getting great reviews everywhere. It just seems like you're doing the same thing, over and over...

I see Mac Game Store finally changed the system requirements to OS X 10.7. Good Job!

Note: This game works fine running OS X 10.6.8 on Steam (for now).

Doorways: Prelude
 –

Good, Creepy Fun

I enjoyed this game. Understanding that these are the first two chapters in a series, they are still a little short. Decent graphics, along with great sound and occasional music create a sufficiently creepy atmosphere, and I must admit I got some chills along the way.

The main character is an investigator for an organization called "Doorways" that tracks down psychopaths by apparently creating a psychic connection with them. I assume that the game takes place along this psychic connection, so the locations and situations are surreal and don't always make great sense, adding to the creepiness. This title, and it's sequel, are reminiscent of Frictional's earlier work (think Penumbra).

This game is dark, thematically but also visually. Too dark, in fact. I ended up going to the settings and turning the brighness up a couple of notches. There is also a secondary brightness control that adds a bit more light. I turned that one up a little too. I'm dinging this game one star for a combination of shortness and darkness.

There are scenes of torture (one with some brief nudity), but they appear in flashes and are only on screen for a few seconds. Still, parents and prudes may want to give this one a wide berth. Everyone else... get your creep on.

Anna's Quest
 –

Really happy with this purchase!

I had a great time playing this adventure! I really enjoyed the puzzles and the story. Callenging but not impossible puzzles, and I felt quite clever once I had them solved. All pretty logical. Graphics and colours are great, if you are into the classic 2D games. Unfortunately, like other Daedalic games I found there was WAY too much dialogue and I get bored and want to click through it. Also, like other Daedalic main characters (Deponia) Anna's voice and do-gooder personality became too much to listen to. I had to mute the voice audio (happy I was able to to this, nice touch!) and just read the dialogue. Regardless, I would play again once I forget the story.

realMyst: Masterpiece Edition

Epic Classic

Epic game classic you need to own if you like a good puzzle game. Great atmosphere of the "old days" but playable on modern computers! Mind you, you are dropped in a world without much explanation so it's not a game for you if you like clear instructions on what to do!

Torchlight II

Loooooot

Nice hack 'n slash game, more colourful than Diablo III but I'm not sure about the loot you get. I miss the excitement of finding loot, I seem to get a lot "more of the same" loot. So you miss a sence of advancement.

Just a really fun experience!

This game is awesome! you can drive your favourite cars through a really large environment
and just cruise. the campain is also quite good, but in my point a little bit too easy.
overall a really nice game if you like cars and just drift them around the corners!

note: it's a keyboard-only game and you need to have a internet connection to start up the game.
