Dark Parables: The Final Cinderella Collector's Edition
 –

Better than I expected

I got this game in a bundle. Fairytale games aren't my favourites, but I usually finish a game how boring, bad or even frustrating they might be. When I read the description I was prepared to get disappointed. Now that I've played both the main and bonus game, I realised that I enjoyed it. The storyline, graphics, sound, voice-over were all good. Mostly it looked and felt like good quality. There are some things though that I didn't like. The animation is too cartoonish, but there are surely people who like that. And of course the map issue. There is actually one, but it's pretty useless when all you get to know is your own location and an "important" place that doesn't really matter. It doesn't teleport either, but although I'm lazy I strangely didn't miss it. The hint charges fast and shows directions, but it gives also impossible hints.

Here are some information about the game.
All the hidden objects are fragments, often easy to find. The mini games are mostly not that difficult, need a bit thinking though. There are morphing objects that makes the hint charge faster and also collectables that unlocks stories. There is no notebook, but it didn't feel necessary. The bonus game is a prequel to the main game, kinda. It's about an oriental Cinderella. And I wan't to give a warning to those with spider phobias. There is a big spider in the bonus game. The length is ok, not long, but not too short.

My final thought is that most of the time this is a good game with nice artwork and an interesting story. I liked the cut-scenes with the Godmother and 95% of the time I felt satisfied playing, kind of relaxed.
I really recommend this game to fairytale lovers, especially to those who'd like a different version of Cinderella. Other people who want a game that isn't too hard and don't mind the cartoonish style, a big spider and the lack of a jump map, should try it out.

The Talos Principle

I'm blown away - this game is amazing

It's unusual for someone to come up with a new concept in gaming - yet that's exactly what this developer did. It is a puzzle game that looks like a first person shooter. Amazing three dimensional worlds - but with no time pressure involved. Instead you have to think about how you can use the tools the game gives you to disable gates, floating bombs, turret guns, etc - to get to the game piece (or bonus star) at the end of each puzzle. You'll later arrange these game pieces in a tangram style puzzle to unlock more of the world to explore. The initial levels are of reasonable challenge, but it quickly ramps up. Including the optional collectible stars, there are well over 100 levels in this game. And the downloadable add-on pack adds even more. I can't recommend this game more highly.

Note: I strongly suggest you download the demo to make sure it will run on your Mac as the graphic requirements are quite steep. Don't let the difficultly of the demo throw you off - it is clearly from an early build of the game and starts at a level that would be well into the real game. With the full version, you'll have plenty of time to get the hang of it, once you've made sure you computer can handle it. Enjoy. (I'm losing sleep staying up too late playing it - it's that good.)

Tales of Monkey Island Complete Pack

Love a good curse

The original monkey island games were my introduction to puzzle games many moons ago. This pack does it justice! I loved it, some puzzles were easy and some infuriatingly tricky!

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

A classic, but a bit aged

It's a classic, for sure, but its age shows. If you're looking for the best Star Wars experience out there, though, this is the game to get. Immersive, intriguing, intelligent — it's got everything a gamer and Star Wars fan could ask for!

Battlestations: Pacific

Wow!

I didn't expect to like this one, but I did! Really fun game, especially for WWII buffs. The Pacific Theater is an enthralling historical setting, and this game takes full advantage of that. Definitely recommended!

Tropico 3: Gold Edition

Okay, but not quite what I'm looking for

Enjoyable, but not enough to keep me coming back. Just couldn't get into it... between this and SimCity 4, I'll choose the latter every time.

Good Storyline

I like the build of the levels as you go, and that I can play it multiple times without getting bored. I especially liked all the characters met along the journey.

Love this game!

Who would've thought this game would be so much fun? It was one of the first titles I bought for my new iMac back in 2011 and I spent many enjoyable hours with it. So much loot to choose from... spent way too much time agonizing over whether to keep my heavily-upgraded gear or go with something with higher stats. If you haven't played it yet, it's definitely worth it!

QUAKE 4

Fun

Fun game, but pretty dated. Still worthwhile if you need a tense action shooter. There is a level late in the game that repeatedly crashed at a certain point, and I had to search online for cheat codes to get past that point, but otherwise it works fine.

Didn't care for it

Disliked the interface and had a hard time getting a feel for how the game works. Probably it's just not the type of thing I enjoy.

SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition
 –

So much fun!

I've had hours of fun with this city simulator, and have yet to get bored. Definitely keeps you coming back for more. I've experienced a couple of crashes here and there, but I haven't been able to pin down the reason, but nothing that really hurt the gaming experience. Totally worth the price (especially if you get it on sale)!

Crusader Kings II: Horse Lords

Hordelicious

I like everything about this content. It is especially fun to play as a Khagan Horde or vassals cause anyone with more soldier mans can be a Khagan and be head of the horde.

Enchanted Cavern

Don't bother

This game is very frustrating. There is scant instruction. The time clock is very vague and there is no help if the time is tight. It's not as if I wanted a hand hold but so many times you get to within ONE square and the time "suddenly" runs out. It isn't a game of skill but of total chance that the squares fall as you need them. I like a challenge but this one is down to pure luck only so save your money unless you like swearing and getting stressed. I have abandoned it. Permenantly

Lords of Xulima

Great game

I really love this game. It is an old stile RPG and it requires a good amount of tactic and thinking. You are fairly free in the exploration of the world unless a stronger enemy is on your way. Spend wise the gold you find and be patietent with the equipment. You need to chose carefully the members of your group and to develop them properly if you want to survive. I fully racommend this game. Enjoy!

Slow, tedious, boring

I player games on my Commodore 64 that were faster. If I play any more of this game I'll die of boredom. It spends an inordinate amount of time loading screens and combat sessions. Combat is a joke. It may be beautiful graphically, but the game play is awful. Absolutely no replay value. I've already unistalled it. And it's not my Mac - I have a maxed out Retina 5K - 1TB SSD, 32GB RAM, 4GB video.

Randal's Monday

Funny and original

A less politically correct Point&Click adventure game by Daedelic Entertainment, with sci-fi quotes and a dark humor that make this game more original than other games by this software house. It's interesting how every action made during a chapter can influence the following ones. It can be played the classic way (right clicking on an object to open a menu) or in a more modern way (left clicking for immediate action).
