Europa Universalis IV: Lions of the North

Must have for players interested in the area.

Europa Universalis IV has been out for over a decade, so if you're considering this DLC, you likely already have a good understanding of the game and its mechanics. As one of the later DLCs, this expansion revisits several Northern nations, as its name suggests, and brings a wealth of new content to enhance the experience.

The DLC introduces new mission trees that add depth and variety to gameplay, offering tailored objectives and rewards for Northern nations. Additionally, it provides unique unit types, estate privileges, and sprites, which enrich the visual and strategic aspects of your campaign. The new music tracks also add to the immersive atmosphere, complementing the overall theme.

Surviving Mars: In-Dome Buildings Pack
 –

The additions are definitely nice

This Surviving Mars DLC introduces a variety of new buildings to enhance your colony's infrastructure and operations. While some players may feel that certain additions should have been part of the base game, the DLC is available at a reasonable price, making it a worthwhile investment for fans of the game.

The new buildings offer a broader range of options for managing your colony, including improvements in resource production, living quarters, and recreational facilities. These enhancements provide more opportunities for strategic planning and can lead to a more dynamic and engaging gameplay experience.

Overall, this DLC enriched my experience with the game by expanding the range of tools and buildings available to create a thriving Martian settlement. If you're looking to deepen your Surviving Mars playthrough and enjoy more variety in your colony's development, this DLC is a solid addition to consider.

Hearts of Iron IV: Eastern Front Music Pack
 –

If you play on the Eastern Front, enhance your music

I am a fan of the music in Hearts of Iron IV and the way the tracks are dynamically chosen based on the country you are playing and the period in history you are currently at. This music pack adds more music for Eastern Front countries. If you play in that area and want more mood music for your game, you might want to pick this up. Keep in mind this is merely music, and will not otherwise change the gameplay.

Cities: Skylines - Campus
 –

A must for those looking to make a campus part of their cities.

This DLC adds a nwe campus minigame where you will try to level up your campus zone. It of course adds lots of new assets to help do that and this will enhance your city if you wanted a campus to play a significant role in the city. You can even have collegiate sports teams. This DLC is definitely a worthwhile addition to your library.

This Cities: Skylines DLC introduces a new campus minigame that allows you to create and manage a university campus within your city. Stellaris: Galaxy Edition Upgrade Pack
 –

Your mileage may vary

This DLC is not a must-have. It gives people a chance to pick up items they may have missed if they didn't buy the Galaxy Edition. So what you will get is an eBook, a collector's book, a wallpaper, the soundtrack, a unique forum avatar, and a new species portrait. I love the Stellaris soundtrack but I had no intention of playing it outside the game. I had zero interest in anything else in this pack except that portrait. I am a completionist and wanted all the portraits possible. Think about what is included and at what price point that would be worthwhile to you. This one goes on sale quite often and with a steep discount.

Cities: Skylines - Natural Disasters
 –

Do you want to destroy what you built?

It pains me a bit to write this, but while this DLC delivers exactly what it promises in terms of introducing natural disasters to the game, I have found that I don't enjoy playing with it turned on as much as I anticipated. The unpredictability of the disasters can disrupt the flow of city-building and may feel more like a hindrance than a fun challenge.

However, if you do enjoy managing the chaos and strategic elements that come with handling disasters, the DLC does provide some new assets to help you prepare and deal with these events. From emergency shelters to disaster response units, these additions can enhance your city's resilience and add a layer of depth to the gameplay.

For those who thrive on the challenge of handling unexpected crises in their city, this DLC may offer an exciting and worthwhile experience. Otherwise, you may prefer to play without it for a more traditional city-building experience.

Hearts of Iron IV: La Résistance
 –

Buy this one last

After a couple of years of playing Hearts of Iron IV with the La Résistance DLC, I've slowly come to appreciate its unique additions. Although it's still my least favorite among the major DLCs for the game, it introduces an espionage minigame that enhances the campaign with a new strategic layer.

Initially, I wasn't fond of how espionage was integrated into the game, but certain missions, such as setting up collaborative governments before conquering a nation, have added interesting tactical options. These missions provide more depth for players looking to approach conquest and diplomacy differently.

In addition, this DLC revisits and expands the national focus trees for Spain and France, which can provide fresh and engaging experiences for players familiar with these nations.

While the espionage mechanics may require some adjustment at first, I no longer feel the need to disable the DLC during my playthroughs. If you enjoy expanding your strategic possibilities and exploring new aspects of the game, this DLC offers a worthwhile experience. Overall, although it may not be my favorite DLC, it's a solid addition for dedicated players.

Stellaris: Season 08
 –

Bundle and save

This is the first time Stellaris has introduced a bundle for its upcoming expansions, which represents a shift in strategy for the game. While I can't review the individual DLCs included in the Season 8 bundle as they haven't been released yet, I can offer my thoughts on the concept of the collection itself.

Paradox's decision to bundle the DLCs and offer them at a discount is a thoughtful move for hardcore Stellaris players who were likely to purchase these expansions anyway. The bundle provides a cost-effective option for those who want to stay up-to-date with the latest content and continue to expand their Stellaris experience.

Cities: Skylines - Sunset Harbor
 –

Perfect for your coastal cities

Cities: Skylines has been a staple in the city-building genre for years, and most players are likely familiar with the variety of DLCs available. This particular DLC introduces a range of new assets centered around a coastal theme, providing players with tools and decorations to enhance their waterfront areas.

While it doesn't introduce a major gameplay overhaul or a new minigame like some other DLCs (such as Parklife, Campus, or Airports), it does offer a substantial set of new options for those looking to develop beautiful and functional coastal cities. These assets include new water-based transport options, coastal structures, and aesthetic decorations that allow players to create picturesque seaside communities.

For serious Skylines players who enjoy fine-tuning their cities and exploring different themes, this DLC is a valuable addition. It expands the creative possibilities and gives you the means to design and manage a thriving coastal cityscape. If you love building unique, visually stunning cities, this DLC will be a significant and enjoyable addition to your gameplay.

Cities: Skylines - Parklife
 –

Greenspace for the masses

Parklife is a standout DLC for Cities: Skylines that introduces an engaging minigame centered around park management. In addition to overseeing your city, you now have the opportunity to design and enhance your parks, offering a refreshing change of pace similar to other DLCs like Industries, Airports, and Campus. The DLC provides a wide array of beautiful park assets that will help you with both major city parks to quaint neighborhood green spaces, giving you the tools to transform your city's landscape.

Visually, the added assets greatly enhance the aesthetic appeal of your city, making it more attractive and enjoyable for both you and your citizens. The variety of park elements, such as playgrounds, zoos, and botanical gardens, can turn any urban area into a picturesque and welcoming space.

In summary, Parklife is a must-have DLC for Cities: Skylines players who want to enhance their city. The value it brings in terms of gameplay depth and visual appeal makes it a worthwhile addition to your collection.

Hearts of Iron IV: Radio Pack
 –

Music to set the mood

This DLC for Hearts of Iron IV adds new music tracks to the game, enhancing the overall atmosphere without changing gameplay mechanics.

One of the standout features of Hearts of Iron IV is its immersive soundtrack, which sets the tone for the experience. This DLC introduces a variety of new music that deepens the mood, especially as you navigate the tense years leading up to World War II. The game also dynamically adjusts the soundtrack based on the nation you play as.

While the DLC is purely cosmetic and doesn't influence gameplay mechanics, I find it adds significant value for players looking to enhance their Hearts of Iron IV experience. If you plan to play this game for many more years, the new music will undoubtedly complement your adventures. I recommend this DLC to fans looking to deepen their immersion in the game.

Hearts of Iron IV: Allied Speeches Pack
 –

Let yourself be inspired

This DLC for Hearts of Iron IV introduces a collection of notable speeches from Allied leaders, triggered at key historical moments throughout gameplay. The inclusion of these speeches enhances the immersiveness of the game, though the exact moments may vary depending on your playthrough. For instance, if the USA joins the war under different circumstances than the attack on Pearl Harbour, you will still hear the "Day of Infamy" speech.

This DLC will be particularly appealing for players who prefer to play in historical mode. In alternate history playthrough the speeches may feel out of place or occur in unexpected situations.

While the addition of these speeches adds depth and historical context to the game, the DLC's long-term appeal may diminish over time. After multiple playthroughs (20-30 or more), you may find the repeated speeches less impactful.

Hearts of Iron IV: By Blood Alone
 –

Another essential DLC for the serious HOI4 fan

With the countless hours I've spent playing Hearts of Iron IV, I've come to appreciate the value that DLC can bring in enhancing and refreshing the experience. This particular DLC introduces several noteworthy features that significantly elevate the game.

The main attractions are the renewed national focus trees for Italy, Ethiopia, and Switzerland. These new focus trees offer unique playstyles and historical and alternate history paths for each nation, making the DLC an essential addition if you're interested in any of these countries.

However, the standout feature of the DLC is the aircraft designer. Building on the success of the ship and tank designers from previous DLCs, the aircraft designer allows you to customize your aircraft to meet specific strategic needs. This addition encourages a fresh approach to research paths as you explore new aircraft components and design options.

In addition to these key features, the DLC introduces other enhancements such as unit medals that provide bonuses to specific divisions, new peace conference options, and additional music tracks that add to the immersive atmosphere.

Overall, this DLC is a must-have for serious Hearts of Iron IV fans. If you're committed to mastering Hearts of Iron IV, this DLC is essential to your collection.
