Calavera: Day of the Dead
 –

Steampunk meets Day of the Dead.

Great concept; you have to trick your way into the world of the dead, in order to rescue some one, by creating and taking a potion that will transform you tempoarily into an Undead person. Many features set this game apart from the usual HOG games. Your assistant is a talking Book of the Dead, with a personality, which makes a nice change from the usual mute animals. The Mexican day of the dead theme is richly represented throughout the game (love the skeleton dog) and is nicely combined with lots of steampunk style robotic contraptions. Some novel things to collect and some refreshingly original games. My favourite things were using the Transformation Altar, creating the my robotic cockcroach, and visiting the street vendor. I just loved that all the undead characters in the story all have quirky personalities. There is an excellent map that shows you where to go for the next piece of action, which becomes quite useful as the game develops. My only piece of advice is - dont forget to pick up the item that emerges from the transformation altar each time you use it. That my be why one of the above reviewers had problems. All in all, a fun game with character.

Chimeras: Tune of Revenge
 –

Detective investigating Supernatural murders.

A detective style, hidden object & games, adventure story. You must gather 13 cursed cards that have caused the death of several of the towns inhabitants and uncover the story behind the phantom organ grinder's need for revenge. During the course of the adventure you will meet a wide array of supernatural beings, from headless horsemen to golems. And of course your animal assistant is a little phoenix ! HOGs are colourful and clear. Games are not bad. The items to be gathered included a few too many of the usual tools, shears for ivy, the ladder & rungs, the corkscrew and jar of oil, the acid & lock. However there were also some more unusual associations which redeemed it. The strangest thing about the game is that the villan speaks in a rather dodgy faginesque voice but you get used to it. The game includes a useful location map that shows your where the current action is and enables you to go directly to it, which speeds up game play. When playing the HOGs I found that I could not view the third line of the list of objects, below the picture, when I was in full screen mode. Consequently I had to play part of the hog in small screen mode and then revert back to full screen mode - mildly annoying.

Endless Space - Emperor Edition
 –

Great 4X Game

Whilst this game can be a little daunting to new players, when you get into it, and start moving the sliders, researching paths and progressing around the universe it really is a great timesink. Hours can go by with very little notice!

I would recommend people read up on some quick-start guides if you want to know what you 'can' do straight away, but otherwise, play, learn, explore!

Portal of Evil - Stolen Runes Collector's Edition
 –

A bit lacklustre

It's an okay HO game, but nothing particularly special about it. The 'Bonus' content is a bit lacking to be honest, one 'bonus' chapter (a bit of a cheat to list it as a bonus chapter when it should be part of the game) and the usual music/wallpaper/artwork - which I never find particularly interesting. And the repeat of the 15 puzzles you find during gameplay. The game itself flows nicely and the puzzles vary from easy to reasonable challenging to utterly ridiculous and frankly lazy on the part of the developers - the latter referring to two puzzles where you're meant to find items which are not actually visible on the screen so its pure guesswork where they're hidden and you spend an inordinate amount of time randomly clicking and passing your mouse over the screen hoping to strike it lucky - on the second one of these I didn't even bother but just skipped it. Graphics are good and a fair amount of thought obviously went into the story but have given it a 3star rating as it just felt a bit short and not worth the Collector's Edition title.

Enigma Agency: The Case of Shadows Collector's Edition
 –

Poor Man's Indiana Jones Adventure

This game is filled with plenty of hidden objects scenes as well as all types of mini-games. It is certainly full value for the price. The map is useful, especially in detailing what still needs to be solved in each room. The scorpions add just one more item to be searched for. Lots of trophies to be had.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
 –

Bioware classic!

If you're a fan of the older Bioware RPG from back in the day, then blending that with the Star Wars universe is a perfect combo. Definitely a few good hours will be spend getting through this title.

Enchanted Cavern 2
 –

An Unexpected Challenge!

I do not understand the low ratings this game has gotten. I find this to be a VERY challenging Match 3. There are a total of 50 Levels and they get progressively more difficult as you progress. So, if you think it's going to be an easy game from your experience with the demo, you would be mistaken. Or if you're playing in "Relaxed" mode and wonder what the challenge is because you don't have trouble completing the Levels (since you don't have the stingy Timer to deal with), then try it again in timed "Casual" mode and I'm quite sure you'll change your mind. In fact, the final Chapter has a couple of levels [7-1 and 7-6] that I had to redo many times before I could complete them in the amount of time allocated by the Timer. Even then, I could not manage to get more than a single Star for my efforts! But I like that. In fact, I got a little obsessed with this game and I found myself going back to it again and again, even after declaring "no more, I've had enough!" I love, love, LOVE it and highly recommend it to anyone who likes Match 3 games.
