I've owned this game more or less since it came out, and it's still running great on OSX 10.2. What's more, I'm still playing it - there are several game modes and plenty of levels, so I keep coming back to it when other games have lost their appeal after a couple of playthroughs.
I never tried this game because I thought it looked stupid, but a friend made me try it. I loved it so much I bought it! Lots of fun mini games, a garden of plants you can raise, and challenging story levels. Give the trial a try and get hooked!
Starships is a simplified but enjoyable 4x game in the mold of Master of Orion II, the gold standard of space 4x games. Although it appears incomplete, it is still an enjoyable game of exploration, expansion, economic development, and combat. It's appeal rests primarily in its clean game play with little complexity or a long lisf of things you need to remember that has made other games of this type such a dreary exercise of game play. There are other 4x games that play much better, such as Starbase Orion, but few that are as relaxing as this non-real-time turn-based game. It needs many improvements though. 1) The little triangle you need to click on to sell goods at the market to speed up sales is easy to miss 2) Your game progress and the progress of the other civilizations are not displayed very well which makes it difficult to make decisions. (3) The ending of the game is too abrupt and unexplained. (4)The game seems to be incomplete as well- the mechanics work well but the deeper elements that are needed for this type of game appear to be missing. The game is also overpriced at its $15.00 sell point.
I'm playing this for the second time because I really enjoyed the first round. I like when I at least have a chance at making gold stars for each level.
This is one of those games that can make you feel like you're putting order back into your life. I love the repetitive, challenging nature of the game. It makes me feel as if I'm truly in "control" of a large airpot. It isn't overly difficult to learn, just a fun, mindless game!
I am not usually one to find excitment in the standard search and find games, but this one really drew me in! I loved the complexity of having to think of things that would work for different categories. I also liked the challenge of finding parts of items and remembering where I saw something that might be worth big bucks in a later round. Overall, this was a really fun, enjoyable game.
Tips on how to get Settlers 7 working on Yosemite 10.10.3
This is my tips on how to get Settlers 7 working on IMAC Yosemite 10.10.3.
Each time you want to play the game i had to do the following. However if you close the game down entirly you will have to start a new install. My save games were not effected, but I took a back up of them anyway.
Step one - Delete settlers 7 - path to a kingdom game folder and contents (manual.pdf, readme.rtf and the settlers 7 - path to a kingdom application). Step two - reinstall settlers 7 - path to a kingdom via the mac store launcher Step three - launch terminal and type the following sudo open /Applications/The\ Settlers\ 7\ -\ Paths\ to\ a\ Kingdom.localized/Settlers7.app. Press return and enter your password. This should open the update. Install update. From this point the game should run fine.
Please be aware I have to reapeat the above process everytime i want to play the game.
Also note: If there are any further problems after the update, then I went go back to step one and also removed the logfile the game should have just created form this install. This can be found in the Settlers 7 folder. After this follow with the remianing steps again and the game should work fine.
This game is easily one of the best I ever played, but describing it seems impossible to me. What's it, then? Well, it's an arcade-adventure in which you take the control of a psychic-powers student who gets involved in a case of the "certain-person-is-trying-to-take-over-the-world" type (I'm trying to not spoil). He starts in a summer camp as another zero-capabilities student and, as the story evolves, he has to "filter" into the minds of several other people. Each mind is a different world in which you find the memories, motivations, obsessions, etc. of his owner. Navigating through this minds gives you the powers to confront more difficult minds, progressing until the end. Ok, that's the setting, but what makes this this game so good? Almost everything. The story is great and extremely well-written. The gameplay is varied: in the different stages of the game you find yourself doing different things. The design and contents of each mental world are unique and (I'll say it) artistic! And, above all, this has a sense! Because the minds in wich you penetrate are not pertainig to exactly "normal" people. You are free (of course) to think I'm crazy, but I found this game to be even therapeutic! Looking at the mechanisms of others' minds thinking may lead to discover your owns' mechanisms. Don' believe me? Try it. To balance the scales, let's say the game shows its age in the graphics/control part. Cut-scenes are numerous but low-resolution and things as control-reactions and fight sequences are simple, but you shouldn't ask for more (budgets and so). I apologize but I need to end this review with a reflexion: this game deserves a place in the MoMA of New York instead of Street Fighter! Ok, I said it. Thanks for listening.
Little to say about this game: poor graphics, basic and repetitive gameplay... You have to help a robot in his quest to prevent humanity to be enslaved by the martians themselves. Heard that song? If you want to find something positive in it, you could point to its sense of humor (As: What's the purpose of kidnapping cheerleaders in addition of farmers, scientits and so? Mmmh...
