Jagged Alliance: Back in Action

Potentially Great Game - but Extremely buggy - DO NOT BUY until patched

I had very hight hopes. In concept this is probably the closest game to the old JA series (which remains one of my all time favorites). The problem is that the Mac conversion just doesn't work. Read the other reviews - they are all true. Constant freezes, invisible NPC's, and many other bugs are rampant and they make this game unplayable. It's very frustrating given how good the concept could be. Please do not waste your money - wait until they patch the Mac version.

Lots of potential, but not sure yet

There's a lot to like here. It's not Diablo but it's not far off the earlier versions. It's buggy, though. I've been able to get around most to the bugs but they're irritating and they hurt what could be a really good game. IMHO this is much better than Torchlight - seems deeper and more fun. BTW, I just started playing so I'll update this review as I play through. One more thing - this game is really cheap ($4.99) - it's clearly worth that already.

Good game hurt by performance glitches

Worst one is that I can only get it to run in windowed mode. Fullscreen mode results in a black screen with sound running in the background. Seems like a good RTS game but this and other glitches make it very hard to enjoy. I'm very sorry that I spent $39.95 here - definitely not worth it until the screen issue and others are fixed.

Wasted potential?

Game has a lot of appeal, and I feel bad in some ways giving it such a low rating. I encountered a number of graphical glitches, however, that made it hard to enjoy an otherwise pretty good game. One glitch, a horrible "shimmering" at the top of my screen, renders the game almost unplayable. $30 down the drain. This is a shame because the graphics are often pretty good and sometimes almost beautiful. Don't think it's my monitor or card, as they are both new and powerful. This is one of those games that I'd love to see passed on to a developer with some resources so that they could clean it up.
