Earth 2140 is a good RTS game along the lines of Command & Conquer. While it might not break a lot of new ground in the RTS format there are a couple of things that I enjoyed about it enough to buy the game. From the burnt out energy drink factory in the opening credits to the combatants themselves a sly, subversive humor is woven throughout the game. Players choose one of two factions, the fat, lazy, West who use machines and robots to do most of the fighting for them or the Eastern hordes who have given up their humanity to become cyborgs.
The second thing that made this game stand out in my mind was that the forces really are asymetric. Both sides have different styles of fighting and the units are designed to emphasize that. The Eastern forces might excell at sending waves of cheep grunts forward into the breach. Trying the same strategy with the Western forces will probably result in you winding up broke and dead. It is this need to come up with different strategies for the two sides that sets this game apart from the myriad of RTS games out there
