Expeditions: Conquistador
 –

Imaginative

To be very short, this game roped me in from the start. Being a Xcom junkie, I needed something to change the setting and mechnics after beating Xcom. Expeditions was perfect...was. I love the quest system, the personality given the characters, how they interact, the camping system, and the health factor. Characters WILL have their own ambitions and oppinions which do come into conflict with your goal in ways I didn't expect. One of my crew found a opprotunity to go with another team to find treasure. I really didn't want to let her go. We were low on hunters and guards. But she would be sad if I didn't let her and I feared she'd run away...THATS ACTUAL CONCERN. I was concerned about my crews oppinions. You can treat them right by feed them double but they call for more out of you which is often times random. Also the writing is superb and I only recommend it to the people who like to read. The game doesn't just have dialogue to have it. You MUST read and be attentive.

HOWEVER. This feeling actually run out very quickly if you game with it for long periods of time. You will have to camp very 20 steps...yes. I'm not joking. It's like playing Pokemon and zubats pop out every 2 steps. This means that you must task your party to various jobs. And these jobs depend on them being taken care of. Scouting, hunting, perserving (really?), Medic (if someone is hurt) patrolling etc. If one team fails to do their job, it sets you back majorly. Thats not a issue. I loved the fact that my camp was ambushed because I neglected to assign more guards. But it becomes very repetitive and drags on. It made me not want to do quests or even go out. The battle system is...ok. It needs some polishing but since this isn't a major studio, its fine.

In the end, I support this game and the developers...but I don't want to play it anymore. Its fun, but I ran out of will to play. Its like a kid playing with a toy weapon against imaginary enemies. Its grand at first because you wonder all the possibilities. And my God, does it deliver!!! I was defeated once and they went into detail of a Native American killing one of my crew members and I grew depressed. Then my party needed to bury him for closure. NO game I've ever played has done this. Taken consideration of your party's mental health after the smallest events. Yet, it kinda drags on with the exploration part. Thats my biggest gripe that really really ruins the game for me. If you can muscle through it, then I'd say jump on it. If you seek faster paced games...look else where.
