Description

From the creators of the popular “Brytenwalda” mod, “Viking Conquest” is a brand new DLC for Mount & Blade Warband! This single and multi player DLC brings Mount & Blade to historical Dark Age Britain, complemented by authentic scenes and cultures. The DLC features a story mode with a complex plot, where choices have real consequences, as well as a standard sandbox mode in an all new setting, with expanded options and controls. Online battling also takes on its own flavour, with special modes like Coastal Assault and Warlord.
  • Living world that evolves around you, with historical and random events, as well as the actions of the player all contributing.
  • More than 300 new cities, castles, villages and special scenes to discover, explore, conquer and plunder.
  • More than 200 historical characters and 100 extra NPCs: Kings, Lords, Ladies, bards, priests and many others. Meet legendary figures like Ivar the Boneless or his bother Sigurd Snake-in-the-Eye, royalty like Harald, later known as FairHair, or Aelfred of Wessex.
  • A story mode where the player will be part of a complex plot involving political conspiracy, during the time the sons of Ragnar were leading their Great Heathen Army through Britain. An immersive game style with choice and consequence, romance, betrayal, moments of greatness and ruin.
  • A sandbox mode, the classic Mount&Blade system, where goals are determined by the player, but with all the richness and options offered by the new setting.
  • More than 15 possible companions, with deep interaction and different personalities. Sometimes their conflicts will force you to use cunning and diplomacy.
  • A complex religion system with two faiths, The Norse Gods and Christianity, with monasteries, special NPCs and parties. Religion will be a important factor in the game that will affect the player's interactions even within their own party.
  • Naval travel and warfare, a key feature to really make the setting complete.
  • Battles can range from simple robbery to massive naval conflicts between huge fleets laden with warriors, all in dynamic battles where you can pilot your own boat, adjusting for factors such as wind, waves, and weather.
  • The option to build your own refuge, hire staff for it, and populate it with the wives and children of your troops...
  • Detailed siege warfare system, with options to reduce a defender by hunger or morale, or by direct assault. With hard choices, plagues and famines, coastal assaults.

  1. Decent, could have used more features
    by Kaiser-e-rum, USA - Mar 18th 2018

Worth buying just on the fact they didn't just cash in on the viking craze and drop the DLC after that, it was a mess on launch. There are better mods out there but this one still has some charms of its own, or pick it up full price is you want a introduction into the potential that the Warband engine has.
Recommend getting on sale. If you are big fan of this time period, check the mod Brytenwalda out.

  2. Horses to Ships
by Paul Fischer, USA - Nov 22nd 2017

Time to hit the seas in this expansion. It is notable for an extensive open world. For a collector, like the base game, it also marks some notable moments in the development of open world RPGs that have now become trademarks of some of the largest brands in the industry.

  3. Very nice DLC if you bring a lot of time
    by Marino1278, Germany - Jul 10th 2017

Warband alone was nice already but with this DLC you will even more immerse in a world full of medieval fights, wealth and burnt cities.

  4. Obsessed with this game
    by Dubbs09, USA - Jul 8th 2017

Absolutely amazing open-world (or in VC story-driven, THEN open world) strategy that doesn't have a lot of competition.

Only question is, through steam, it has a higher/newer version than the one I have on Mac Game Store? The versions aren't the same and not sure how to update the one here?

  6. Open World at its most Open!
by Daniel Steven Oles, USA - Dec 20th 2016

This is not so much a game as an experience you build yourself: like a Universalis game except with more action packed battles. There are quests to do and factions to please but like Minecraft this is a game where you set your own goals and strike out to achieve them, sinking hours into becoming the best warrior, ranking up to be a noble, pleasing a king enough to be a vassal, trading until you become rich. Everything you do reflects in someway on your character in surprising detail. Armor and weapon types effect your speed and effectiveness and you can use your own ensign to designate your eventual warband. The graphics are minimal but realistic and work great on practically any system. It's a rare game where you feel like you're living the medieval life and I at least can't get enough!

  8. Don't be put off by the mixed reviews.
by Aidin Abedi, Sweden - Dec 6th 2015

There is no denying this DLC was an absolute train wreck when it was released, being filled of game breaking bugs but now with the release of the Reforged Edition it's a really good DLC.

  10. Outstanding Expansion Pack
    by ChaosKnight, USA - Nov 28th 2015

There's really not much to say about this DLC. If you love the Mount and Blade games, this Viking expansion is sure to entertain you for countless hours and a purchase is a no brainer. It adds a new single player campaign to the game and a good amount of new multiplayer content. There's hundreds of new locations to discover and explore and a new ambush system added to the game. There's also over a dozen companions that you can get to join you, as well as a dog that will follow you around when free roaming or in battle.

  11. Solid DLC
    by LoremasterNick, Finland - Nov 25th 2015

The new campaign map and setting add enough to warrant a purchase, especially when discounted. Some of the mini games are quite neat. The DLC itself is somewhat better looking than the main game.

  12. Fun to play
by dolci, Russian Federation - Jun 12th 2015

Fun to play in the beginning. Then I found a major bug in the level where you pay back money - it's not extending the attack clock, so you end up constantly being attacked. Disappointed in the game, and deleting it from my system.

  13. So immersive
    by lawrence1988, United Kingdom - May 26th 2015

After several hours of pillaging, killing and Stealing in England, nothing feels better then returning home and sitting down to play some Viking Conquest.

  14. Not playable on Mac
    by jimthe1st, USA - Apr 9th 2015

    Update: 2 August 2015
The latest version of Viking Conquest is the Reforged Edition (VC 2.0). Unfortunately the DLC is still not playable on Mac due to crashes and other issues. After waiting over 7 months of patches and updates to be able to play this DLC, I have regrettably decided to lower my rating from two stars to one star. Don't waste your time and money on this DLC. There are plenty of free mods for Warband which are much better than this DLC.

    Original review:
I have been playing the most recent version of the game on Steam (1.04), and it is a HUGE improvement from the initial release. However, the DLC still suffers from frequent crashes, bugs, and performance issues. I cannot recommend the game in its current condition. The game has alot of potential, and is alot of fun when it runs. Hopefully future patches will fix the stabilty issues and make a playable game.

  15. Great game, crappy job
    by DoktorSulten, Norway - Mar 24th 2015

This game is amazing, but hopelesly buggy. It is just about unplayable. About time to do something about it, but knowing these developers, it will never happen.
