About the Game
Terror. Violence. Madness. Bedlam. A holiday paradise gone mad. A tropical island turns into total chaos after a mysterious zombie outbreak. Cut off from the rest of the world, the player’s only chance to survive is to fight to the death and find a way to escape from the island.

Dead Island combines first-person action with a heavy focus on melee combat, character development and customization of a vast array of weapons. All of these gameplay features are presented in a dark story inspired by classic zombie movies with a gritty and engrossing campaign that can be played with up to four players in co-op mode.

Set in an open world tropical island, hordes of different festering zombies await players around every corner while they embark on a variety of thrilling missions through the holiday resort. With firearms and ammunition being scarce the player must rely on utilizing found items as weapons for self-defense and fight off zombie hordes in intense melee combat. A diverse range of items can be collected and will later serve to transform the player’s ordinary makeshift weapons into serious instruments of destruction.

In addition to satisfying even the most bloodthirsty action fan’s fantasy, Dead Island also features role-playing elements which allow the player to develop one of the game’s unique character classes according to their preferences, all the while learning new skills and fresh tactics during their journey through the perilous environments of the island. What’s more, anytime during a game up to four players can seamlessly join together and experience the intense combat and immersive story with cooperative gameplay.

With the all-new Chrome Engine 5 powering Dead Island, the game will use the latest installment of Techland’s acclaimed proprietary game engine, allowing the player to experience the tropical island paradise in graphical splendor with diverse environments like lush forests and detailed city environments.

  1. Bad port to mac
    by Porthos40, USA - Nov 1st 2017

I ran this game on my Mac Pro (2010) 2.8GHZ 8gig, Radeon 7950, after 30 to 45 gameplay the game would crash. This game runs terrible and lags a lot when theirs a lot of undead mob in the area. This game badly ported over to mac, the company should be shame of porting this game. The graphics & sound is great. However that doesn't make up for the game crashing a lot on my Mac Pro.

  5. Zombies Rock!
    by Fretless, Australia - Feb 13th 2015

Despite the fact that I had to use Steam (which I hate) and that my machine (2010 MacBook Pro 17" running OS X Mavericks) supposedly did not meet the criterior for the game, it worked fine with my setup.

The game itself is great. A lot of repetition though, and I don't always enjoy it when the zombies respawn when you leave an area. Doesn't make much sense - but then neither do zombies period! Still love zombie stuff though!

  6. It had so much…..going for it… but nothing at the same time.
    by daisyborat, USA - Feb 6th 2015

It had so much going for it and i was super excited to play it.

-but honestly, the storyline is not that engaging, you can advance to new areas even if you havent done all the quests, so you can basically skip 3/4 of the game and have no problem. items are way to hard to find, like rolls of batteries in the garbage, or entire rolls of duct tape in an office desk drawer, you find things NON STOP and in huge quantities. Just no thought to any of the items, literally why woudl i find vodka in a garage and a tool in an office?
-i also did not like how the zombies just regen when you leave an area and with no system of logic. You leave an area for 30 minutes of play time or 2 hours of play time they regenerate the same, how many zombies can there be in the first place and why do they not start fillign in an area more over time not just the exact same no matter how long you leave. Not to mention, if you clear an entire are, and all the areas around it, why would the zombies come back so quickly and in such numbers. Again, just another nonsense situation. I would like to think that once you clear an area its cleared, and maybe 1 or 2 or 3 zombies slowly wander back in.
-I absulutely think its dumb for havign the zombies "level up" as you do, so its "always a challenge" its the dumbest thing. You start with an area of weak zombies and few of them, but as you work across the island to more populated parts of said island you run into a lot larger numbers of zombies with higher levels. You offer a reason, this is the hotel, it also was having a BODY BUILDING competition so theres lots of tank guys ETC ETC ETC.

-I was super super excited to play this game but honestly after about 4-5 hours i just stopped, it was just a repetative do it over, everythigns easy to find, no challenges, fairly good graphics, great sound game that goes nowhere. You dont feel any achievement, you dont feel any fear or excitement, no wandering, no desire to discover, its just a click and kill over and over game. Some people may like that, but i just dont get it and cant recommend it. You can buy 5 zombie bot games that are better than this and cheaper.

  7. Love it but cant play it
by Matt Lonne, Australia - May 6th 2014

This game is awesome, but it drops out on the police station stage. Not sure what to do as the game up to that point is great.
