Riptale

Riptale is a fast-paced action platformer with roguelike features such as randomly generated levels and permadeath.

Emphasis on the game is on fighting which has been made as rewarding as possible. You can really feel your attacks connect and the flesh of the enemies rip apart. At the beginning of the game you have three gems that allow you to perform a straight attack. This attack sends you dashing through the air. You have to aim these slicing attacks using a controller (keyboard works also but the game is designed to be played with a controller). If you hit enemy it will be shred into half with blood and body parts flying around. After a successful hit there is a small slo-mo time allowing you to aim again and make combos killing multiple enemies.

The challenge with the attacks is that each attack uses one gem. The gems take a while to recharge so you must think ahead and aim carefully so that you don't run out of gems in the middle of the enemies. If you are lucky - or good - enough to connect with each gem they will immediately recharge allowing you to make some spectacular combos that will the screen with dead enemies and blood

Shops allow you to upgrade your gems into better ones. Some gems allow a triple attack, some allow a zig-zag-like saw attack and some attacks home into nearest enemies. This allows you to customise the hero with attacks you like or are familiar with. Or maybe you want to test a new gem and see if you can master it?

Each time you die the levels are randomly generated again allowing for lot's of re-playability. The levels are filled with special rooms like challenge rooms, libraries and runes. Each of these provide something extra for the play through. For example runes can give you extra gems at the expense of health. If you can complete a challenge you are rewarded with trinkets and unlocks.

Bosses wait you at the end of each level. There are four different levels each of which have different enemies. Enemies are different and you have to learn their behaviours so that you can attack safely. Killing bosses give you special rewards that make your hero more powerful than ever.
