  1. Interesting take on WWII
by João Costa, Portugal - May 6th 2018

I feel there are 2 features this game has nailed very well. Alternate history and the production of WWII.
Alternate history makes the several playthroughs unpredictable which leads to a lot of replayability. From france going comunist to WWII starting because of a civil war in india, a lot of variety to it.
The way production is handled also makes the game very satisfying since your army will only have the resources you produced in the years towards the war.

While the game is very good it has 1 mechancs that need revamping. The naval part of the game currently doesn't work very well and it is extremely unclear if your fleet is winning or losing and if it is "helping" the war effort. Due to being a paradox game i ahve the hope that paradox will update this feature in the future.

While you can play with any country in the world, the base game offers a few countries with unique mechanics: France, UK, USA, Poland, Germany, USSR, Italy and Japan.
IMO those are the most fun countries to play with however if you feel you need more content you can always look at DLC which adds further countries that while small in nature are (relatively) relevant for the war, such as Yugoslavia, Romania, RAJ, china(s),etc.

IMO this game is worth buying for anyone that likes strategy games and WWII.

  2. Some alternate history?
    by riotsquirrel, Germany - Apr 17th 2018

Communist France ally with the Soviet Union against the capitalist enemies of United Kingdom and United States after they defeated the German Reich and split up central Europe among themselves?

All possible with some patience and the right decisions...

Another nice grand strategy game by Paradox, not that great as EU IV or CK II, but I love it just the same. Never played HOI III so I cannot say something about changes.

I like how you can set up different divisions according to your tech level and the idea of setting up battle plans and carry them out afterwards.

But the strongest point in my opinion is the possibility to play around with history.

  3. Started out bad, but has impoved a lot.
    by J O.3, Estonia - Mar 20th 2018

Paradox has been doing a pretty good job ironing out the bad design decisions and this is getting pretty good by now.

  6. A fun game
    by FluffyRanger, Canada - Feb 24th 2018

This game is great with friends. Modding it makes it fun if you wanted to alter historical events. The game is hard at first but once you understand the controls and how everything works it's a fun game.

  8. Thrilling WW2 Simulator
    by Air H., Latvia - Dec 20th 2017

I just started playing HOI4 and I am absolutely loving it- the production system that you use to make your "war resources" (like guns, because you need guns for soldiers, duh), the preparation for WW2 (which is a period where you carefully decide what you do and prepare to attack/defend in 1939, or even faster if you are Germany, or later), the battle plan system is great, though you do have to micro-manage it a bit to go your way. I recommend this game to any paradox fans and WW2 fans who like strategy games.

  9. Hearts of Iron IV Review
by Caleb Schwab, Australia - Oct 30th 2017

Great game. Very historically accurate and the attention to detail is amazing. That being said, it can be very micro-managey and a few hours will need to be set aside to learn the game.

  10. Good
    by dfox2014, USA - Sep 25th 2017

If you're used to EU4 then this is the same basic style of game. The map is beautiful but it is a big learning curve. I wish it offered more however keep in mind, unlike EU4 which spans hundreds of years, this game only last 5. It's very focued.

  11. Very Good
    by eamon360, United Kingdom - Sep 5th 2017

Grand strategy, lots of good mods, alternate history simulator, play as nearly any country you like. Fascist Ireland? Communist Australia? it can be done.

  12. Review for Hearts of Iron IV: Cadet Edition
    by Gee S., USA - Jul 22nd 2017

The game is definitely quite difficult to pick up at first but once you get the hang of micro-management, it gets exponentially fun. It might be frustrating at times, but that's what comes from playing a strategy game.

Big fan of paradox games. This one is pretty okay. Not CK2 EU3/4 levels, but its moneys worth on a sale.
