Description

El Dorado is the fifth expansion to Europa Universalis IV and brings to life the conquests, creeds and discoveries synonymous with the Age of Exploration. The centerpiece of the latest addition is the Nation Designer, which allows the customization of a starting nation in a campaign and further enhances EU4’s already near infinite replayability.

This expansion’s focus on Central America and South America introduces new religions whilst impactful theaters of exploration will challenge you with new decisions worthy of a king or conqueror. As the Aztecs, subject the Mexican plain to your rule but be sure to have enough vassal kings to sacrifice to your angry gods. As the Europeans, push deeper into the jungles of the Amazon, following rumors of lost cities and magical fountains.

Whatever path you choose, El Dorado is sure to be a golden addition to your Europa Universalis IV playing experience.
  • A deep Nation Designer gives you new starting options for your games, including national ideas and custom monarchs.
  • Experience the new Nahuatl, Inti and Mayan religions with blood sacrifices or Sun Worship.
  • Send your conquistadors to hunt for the Seven Cities of Gold, or your explorer on exploration missions around the world.
  • Gold Fleets can traffic New World wealth back to Europe, and be targeted by your privateer fleets.
  • Use your trade fleets to hunt dangerous pirates.
  • Maintain good relations with the Pope so you can get a corner of the world to call your own in the Treaty of Tordesillas.

  1. Correct but not essential dlc

Correct but not essential dlc , add good stuff but not necessary

  2. Know what you get
    by storp, Sweden - Mar 31st 2018

It's not a bad DLC for what it is, but it's mostly useless outside of colonizing and the New World. The nation designer is cool but not really a must-have feature, I personally never use it as I always play on ironman.

I'd say you should only get this if you want to play as natives or are really into colonizing. Get it when it's on sale as every other paradox DLC.

  3. A meh DLC
    by CJshark, USA - Mar 22nd 2018

This DLC for EU4 is not very essental for gameplay. Unless you really want to play Mesoamerican tirbes, the best part of this is probably the custom nation designer.

This dlc is not really needed for the game. Most of the mechanics put in to the game are not really the useful

  6. Another good, but not that much important dlc
    by Lukas F.6, Czech Republic - Dec 22nd 2017

Well, this dlc is sooo good if you like colonizing New World and it is must-have if you want to play as any "weak" subject nation, because it opens the option of supporting in independence war.

  7. Like playing as a colonizer? This is for you! Don't? How about making your own n
    by Air H., Latvia - Dec 20th 2017

El Dorado is an expansion to the colonizing aspect of the game- making it less tedious and more fun overall. However, the most major feature here is custom nations. You can make your own nation with their own ideas, flags, colour, unit look and ruler. This adds a lot of replayability to an already big game- I recommend this for everyone who likes EU4. It's not necessary, but it is very good.

  8. Nice dlc
    by Carl V., Denmark - Oct 29th 2017

Everything worked well. The dlc is a maybe not the nr. 1 dlc, but it is great adding fun some automatization of exploring.

  9. Situational DLC
    by Cristi P., Romania - Sep 27th 2017

I'll be honest, I only got this because I was very keen on playing a specific country (Moldavia), which starts off as a vassal at the beginning of the game. The DLC allows for new diplomacy options, most importantly (to me) the one to get other countries to support your independence war against your overlord. This drastically improves gameplay options if you're playing as a vassal/march.

Other than that, the custom/random nation content might be nice, if you get bored with the base historical game (I haven't yet).

  10. Must have.
    by dfox2014, USA - Sep 25th 2017

I wish i had bought this DLC earlier. It is expensive for what it is but still a great addon to the game. The nation designer is a whole new level of game play. If you've played a lot of the base nations, start building your own. It makes it truely live up to endless gameplay.

  11. Great expansion
    by Matt A., Australia - Sep 18th 2016

Adds a whole load of new features with the best bent the nation editor. The nation editor allows you to create your own nation into the game. It's a feature that was really needed for the game and is quite powerful - allowing for the editing of religion, ideas, and pretty much everything about a nation. A great purchase - even better on special

  12. It's ok I guess...
    by Jkr013, Greece - Jul 11th 2016

One of the less successful EUIV dlc's. Not much content added. Buy it to complete your EUIV collection. I suggest to wait for the large 66-75% sales for it.

  13. Good and immersive
by Clarborne, United Kingdom - May 10th 2016

The american religions part of this works very well in part with the other DLCs. Playing as a native in central america is very difficult but challenging. The gameplay is that you have to vassalise the other realms in the region order to enact reforms. When you enact one, the vassals break free and this keeps happening until you modernize your religion. The doom mechanic prevents you from simply conquering all the other nations because if you do so then your nation will implode.

The nation designer seems ok but isn't really my thing. The treasure fleets make colonial nations more profitable by sending you goodies (gold) every once in a while.

  14. Small DLC - Useful for explorers and new world players
    by ChrisK91, Germany - May 9th 2016

This expansion adds some minor content to this game, like fleet missions. If you play with colonies, the new fleet mission are really helpful, and the quest for ElDorado has some nice events. You should also try playing as the Aztecs, which are a focus in this expansion. This expansion might not be necessary for everyone - but it adds useful bits an pieces, even if you don't play as colonializing nation or in the mexican region. Well worth the 5 bucks in my opinion.
