  2. Great RPG
    by ack5ter, United Kingdom - Jan 15th 2018

Very easy to immerse yourself into a great story. Lot's of reading but never boring. Not quite as good as Divinity Original Sin in the combat department but well worth buying if you love RPG's.

  4. Black Isle Studios is back!
    by Lee A.1, USA - Jan 4th 2018

While it might not have that lightining mountain logo or that D&D brand this is Icewind Dale minus D&D. A fantastic romp through a fabulous fantasy world, the ability to hand craft your entire party, and pause able strategic combat. Not to mention i got it for the best price ever, right here on wingamestore.com

  6. Great RPG by any measure
    by b00p, USA - Apr 9th 2017

Having bounced off the original Infinity Engine games despite best attempts, and thus having no real nostalgia to go off of, not to mention my general ambivalence towards D&D style fantasy in general, I stayed away from Pillars for a long while, even though I love a big, chunky RPG from time to time and have a real appreciation for Obsidian's brand of complex and thoughtful storytelling.

That was a mistake! It's quite great! The characters and setting, though not super-exotic, is strong and weird enough to be interesting. Not finding it overly-wordy compared to what I had heard, just the right amount of reading. More voice acting than I expected, and for the most part, pretty strong, especially when compared to something like Wasteland 2 or even Skyrim. The environments are quite pretty despite being 2D. I find myself enjoying real-time with pause combat for the first time ever, inexplicably. Lots of options and ways to play in terms of perks, skills, items, and spells. Plenty of combat and world-building. In other words: A big, meaty RPG, well worth your time.

Captures those older games you all know and love. f yo're new and not sure if you'll like it, pick it up on sale. If you've played the older games and love it you won't be disappointing.

  10. One of my favorite games.
    by Crixler, USA - Jul 16th 2016

Great characters, great setting, great gameplay, great music, great art.
The actual story isn't 10/10, but it's still pretty good.

Some people apparently find the game a bit too wordy, but I didn't notice that too much. But I also kind of like wordiness in games, anyway.

Be sure to check out the expansions, as well - they're probably even better than the base game.

  11. Isometric is Back
    by Panther, Canada - May 28th 2016

Now that it has received some updates the game runs really well which was the major hurdle the first couple months with a ton of graphic issues. This is old school RPG in the vein of the Baldurs Gate series. Really fun and tactical combat with a fantastic storyline.
Some added DLC content brings some needed NPC roles to the game as well.
    Pick it up here!

  12. Perfect RPG
by Elias Chapelle, USA - Apr 20th 2016

I don't particularly like real-time RPG and miss the old school turn-based RPG games such as Balder's Gate, Icewind Dale, and Neverwinter Nights. Older RPG allowed you to think about your actions before committing and to spend more time absorbing the background of the fantasy world you were playing in. Older RPG also let you become more involved in the characters you were playing and allowed you to feel like you knew them as real people. Luckily for us fans, some of the older RPG games have been updated to run on newer computers. Although these updates were great to see, we were still only replaying a game we played before. But now we have something completely new.

'Pillars of Eternity' is a return to old school RPG games and fans should be forever grateful. It is not the only turn-based RPG that has emerged recently (think the Shadowrun series) but it is certainly the most immersive RPG gaming experience you will have to play since the games of the old days.

The storyline is not the usual juvenile hack and slash formula. The characters you meet will tend to be memorable and the developer offers you a fully fleshed-out story that will remind you of a very good fantasy novel.

If you are a fan of the turn-based RPG, you should strongly consider this game. Highy recommended.

  15. Amazing RPG
    by Alexis T Bell, USA - Apr 2nd 2015

If you ever played a table top RPG, this is the game you've always wanted to play on your computer. You don't just choose a race and a class, but a background a country that influence the interactions throughout the game. As the game progresses you get a stronghold that you can grow and develop. And instead of a 'good vs evil' meter, there are complicated choices that let you choose different sides. The 'villian' you go on a quest to kill may have a different story, and may ask you to take his side. This is a very deep game I anticipate replaying over and over.
