As solitaire games go, it's okay. I've played more interesting solitaire. It's fun, can get a bit tedious.

The card game is much the same as that in Fairway Solitaire. Sand traps and water hazards are replaced by ice and rock. Golf courses are replaced with areas of Avalon to be saved, Instead of the Pro Shop for new equipment, you go to a Magic Shop for rabbit's feet and Runes.

As for game play, Also similar. Move cards of higher or lower number to the base deck. You can put aces on kings and kings on aces. Each area of Avalon requires you to accomplish some aspect(s) of the game - run of xx cards, score xxxx points, etc.

Avalon has wild cards (they come in very handy), and Magic Cards to collect. Avalon also has locked cards to add to the challenge. There is a story - you must return the magic cards to the Druids - okay, not the high point.

In Avalon you earn points based on play - each level has 10 hands. Each level has certain goals. You do not repeat any hand in the level, but if you do not reach the goals, you must replay all 10 hands again. You earn points that buy a variety of power ups. There is some logic in how you use the points. Getting all the power ups is not necessary, but at least there is a purpose in earning points. There are 13 possible achievements. I earned 12, and believe the one I did not get required a certain very pricey power up.

So, Avalon - it's not too difficult at all, in the beginning. For the first 2/3 of the game I never repeated a level. Then everything changed. Nothing was impossible, but the last level took me as long as the rest of the game put together - at least it seemed that way.

Overall, there's many hours of play time, it is basically relaxing, certainly has replay value, the artwork is pleasant enough. There are no voice overs as in Fairway Solitaire, nor any of that quirky humor, but it's still a decent way to spend some free time.
