I was initially hesitant to play a "point and click" adventure game, but once I saw the artwork and design, I decided to give it a try. Wow, what a great game!
I love the look and feel of the Machinarium city. The robot characters are memorable and unique.
Although a little short in overall length, I did enjoy the games and puzzles throughout the adventure. The puzzles are challenging and innovative: right in the middle between, toddler-easy, and genius-I-give-up-hard. The "hint" pages are great pieces of art and in themselves.
For me, the music was what really stood out. Wonderful pieces created by Thomas Dvorak that fit very well with the style of this robot world. I was happy to see that the digital download includes an option to also get the soundtrack- wonderful!
Great Art, Fantastic Music, Memorable Characters: Machinarium Works for me!
What makes this game a good time, despite the somewhat repetitive gameplay (collect; dig; collect; dig; hope what you actually need spawns) is the writing and the tongue in cheek humor. Kudos to the writing staff!
Also, the host of animals are rather precious, and it's fun to try to get a variety of achievements and whathaveyou. Also, as the other reviewers have noted, it is NON VIOLENT, which is very welcome. As someone who loves the Harvest Moon games, it's great to find another game that doesn't "level up" by killing and scouring for the best gear; you actually "crit" the other animals with charm!
I have found 2 birds, a gramophone, and a coat rack!
(But no amount of found gramophones is going to solve THIS mystery!)
This is a wonderful sequel; it has much improved on an already great game! The addition of different menus really adds to the experience, and the challenge! Also, as referenced in the title of this review, the great humor and writing from the first game is back, and improved upon!
I really enjoy this series. Even having played through many times, I keep going back to get the achievements! Highly recommended, and hoping for another installment.
The graphics are great and the story line was very interesting. I loved that you are able to go through the puzzles if you want to, but you also have the option to skip some of the mini ones. You can play them until you figure it out but just because you can't get the answer doesn't mean you are stuck until you do. The only thing I didn't really like is that sometimes your directions are not clear and the waiting period to wait for another hint is quite a while. I think the directions should be more clear in some areas of the game. Overall, it's a great game and I would recommend to anyone who likes this genre of games.
I bought the Hoyle 2010 and enjoy it all the time. Yes, like all games there seems to be a few bugs that are annoying, but overall this game has hours of entertainment. The worst bug is that I have to re-download the game from time to time. I have played a majority of the games already and like the other person who does not like to drag around cards in Canasta, I do. I give this game a five star for those of us who enjoy card games.
Starting out slow, only to surprise you of the details you must unravel. challenging yet interesting and fun. I originally purchased this for my husband, and well lets put it this way, he has not had a chance to play it! I enjoy the music that plays when your searching for clues or driving to the next case. I will have to give a high 5 star rating for this one. It is my favorite mac game so far! And it is not expensive at all! Try it and have some fun!
First I was neglecting this one, now I'm addicted, let's hope there will be a Mac release of the divine wind soon, can't wait to play the Asian campaigns.
This is THE BEST GAME I ever played for Mac. It has a realy good story... There will be 2 more games of Assassin's Creed so don't miss this one because games like this are very hard to find...
So, while the gameplay is very cool and the concept well done - the close view and the constant movement of the camera have consistently made me motion sick while playing - a disappointment
If you're looking for a game to test your patience, this is it. I agree with all the assessments of the "dull" "repetitive" dungeon patterns, but it's still a fun game..... if you can keep it running. Too many problems with crashes. I've had to resort to exiting the game or using a town portal just to keep saving the game and make progress. It's fun for an hour, but constant "travel" or saving is a HUGE waste of time.
