Feral Has Done It Again! Grid Is As Good Now As It Was Back Then...

When Grid was released over 5 years ago, I never thought I would see it on my Mac. But as the relationship between Feral and Codemasters grew I was very hopeful. TOCA 3 was a great game, but Grid was such an upgrade in every way to the series. The upgraded engine (EGO) was much more realistic and the shaders were absolutely fantastic. No matter what some may say about the game being late to the Mac Party, it is definitely a case of 'better-late-than-never".

GAMEPLAY
You may hear in certain circles that this game is an arcade racer and not a proper racing sim. This is true to an extent. The car speed is ramped up beyond almost all other racers out there. The speed of the cars is a bit unrealistic, but it does not take away from the overall fun gameplay. It can make it a bit tougher for those newer to the racing game genre, but should not deter anyone from trying the game. Hardcore racers and casual racers alike will be able to find something to like about this game as it does have driver assists that can be turned on and off. But it does take a little getting used to as the cars have a little bit of "wobble" at times. But not bad enough to ruin the experience. There is good steering wheel and gamepad support. BE AWARE: There is an issue with the control mapping where it does not always save your mappings and you may have to remap your wheel or gamepad upon every restart.

GRAPHICS
Again, just as with any EGO engine game, the graphics are well done and hold up extremely well to this day. Plenty of options make the game available on many Macs and the fact that the game is a bit older ensures that higher end Macs can utilize all the ultra settings available in the game. The game looks great whether or not the player uses any of the multisampling options and the car models and tracks look great. But one of the best (and most fun) parts of the game has to be the damage model. You may find yourself, at times, simply running into your competitors just to see the parts fly!

SOUND
Sounds are very well implemented in the game. The engines sound great and the damage and crashes really add to the immersion. The whine of the engine can really make you feel you are in the cockpit. The pit radio chatter is well implemented and can be of use during the race.

OVERALL
Just let me say this, Grid is worth every penny you will pay for it. Yes, the game is over 5 years old..... Yes, the game is late to the Mac..... Yes, the game may be more than the Windows version..... YES, YOU SHOULD BUY THIS GAME NOW!

PROS
- Great EGO engine game
- Pretty graphics
- Nice Sounds
- A lot of content
- DLC included in this version
- Steering wheel and FFB available

CONS
- Game is a bit older
- Controls are not always saved so you may have to remap on restart
- Not much else

StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm

Great addition

Only three things i can say are wrong with this game. 2 are a personal prefrence, and that is the levels where you just have to build up an army and defeat another base etc, they have tons of cool missions but i like a few of the old school just build em up and defend without all the time limits etc. 2nd, is that before a level starts you have no idea how to buff your swarm, let alone what perks to give to kerrigan, Should have a preview or some sort of suggestion, i know everyone playes differently but a lot of levels people would use the same perks.
-the 3rd thing i dotn like is a performance issue, when i bought the first SC2 i was blown away at the quality and the performance, then i upgraded my computer and was blown away again by how much i got from the game. I got this one, and yes i have upgraded my computer again, 2gb video card, I7 processer with 8gb of ram, and its EHHH, i think i would have to give it a 6/10 relative to the last starcraft and other games that i have played in the last year.

-Overall, the two personal prefferences only took a bit away from the game, and the poor graphics quality was the big hit, relative to other games in the last year, make ths a 4/5 star game.

Blown away

I was blown away 2 years ago when this came out, my girlfriend bought it for me for my b-day. Then i upgraded my computer about 6 months later and turned the options up and was even more blown away, so much to do and so many options, just good old fun. A few things i would have changed, but nothign i can say bad about the game just personal preferences. I don't like how they are still charging 40 buck for this game, when it came out it was worth it, but now i would say a fair price for it is 25-30 dollars

Must-have racing game

Thunderous applause to this game! While it was still in the pre-order stage I was very excited for its release. Now that I'm playing it, I'm literally blown away by it.

Superb graphics complements the outstanding detail they placed on every aspect of the game. Hardcore and casual racing game fans alike will surely be overwhelmed with Grid's awesomeness.

Great game! But...

I really enjoyed this game-the graphics were cool, the storyline was brilliant, and I liked how the game molded to your choices so some of the outcomes were different. I was almost in tears by the end; it really tugs on your heartstrings! However, after completing Episode 3, when I loaded Episode 4 it said that I was skipping ahead, and would I like the game to generate decisions for me. Whenever I clicked "No" the screen went black and I was stuck, and had to click Command + Q to quit. When I clicked "Yes" it somehow got me to the next episode with all of my previous decisions made! So, I didn't care as long as it took me to the next part and all of the same choices & characters were there.

After I completed the game, I created a New Game so I could replay it a second time, in order to make some different choices. I got past Episode 1... and now cannot play past it and into Episode 2. Everytime I try to load it, a box comes up asking if I want to "rewind" to this point (even though I shouldn't have to rewind anything, seeing as I didn't play Episode 2 yet). The only options are to click Yes or No. I've tried clicking both and all I get is a black screen that will sit there until I finally have to quit the game because it won't do anything. It's a bummer because I can't play anymore. My only other option is to delete all the games and try starting again, but that means I have to play Episode 1 all over again, and I JUST finished it. It's just disappointing because the game is so fun! Researching online, there are tons of other people having this same issue on different computers, through different gaming sites, etc. so there must be a technical issue through Telltale Games. I wish they would give an update or a bug fix, because it's like I paid to rent the game for one time instead of being able to play as much as I want.

Glitchy on Mac, But Worth It!

Everyone knows AC is a great series, and worth the money.
But what about the cons on Mac?

Well, for me, I only ran into one glitch on a regular basis. The classic keyboard glitch.

Sometimes while using a wireless mouse, the game stops taking inputs from your keyboard, so all you can do is use your mouse to exit the game and try to play again.

I found 1 solution that worked most of the time.. and that was to go into my Mac settings and into Keyboard, then change the input from wireless to built-in, then start the game. (this won't affect the function of your wireless mouse, but may help fix the glitch)

Getting around the glitch didn't seem too hard. And afterwards, the game crashed a few times, but only after extended hours of playing.
I played the game for roughly 35 hours of game time, and only crashed 4 times.

But I ran into the keyboard glitch about 10-12 times.

All-in-all, totally worth it!

For those of you who are new to Assassin's Creed, like I was...

AC2 is such a beautiful game! (cannot express how pretty this game looks, must see!)

Large open world! Great story!! Change your characters armor and weapons, even pick up and use weapons from enemies!

Very early in the story you are introduced to a city that you acquire and upgrade, for which it inturn provides income for you every 20mins of gameplay..

I found that after acquiring and increasing this steady income, money was never a problem.

Enjoyed all the weapons! From swords, maces, daggers, to the throwing knives, smoke bombs, and poison! And ofcourse, hidden blades. Even hand-to-hand combat is so much fun! The animations never get old, and I kept seeing new animations for different weapons (especially all the different finishing moves). I especially enjoyed using the smoke bomb, poison, and just bare hands.. It's fun to punch-combo, disarm, and finish, all in one smooth aggression.

Also, don't forget all the exploration. Running, Flying, Horseback Riding, even boat rowing. One of may favorite parts of the game was definitely the tomb-raider-like dungeons. Extra fun with the ones that had enemies inside!

Wish they ported AC Liberations, or AC3 for Mac! I'm not picky, even AC IV. ;)

STFU AND TAKE MY MONEY XD

Its titles speak for themselves, and like the other reviews, this will only be a positive one. Absolutely worth every dime spent, especially if you are playing online. You will spend hours and hours playing this game, and it is even fun after using cheat codes! XP Only con i can point out is the graphics, but thats not a con, considering it was released way back then and it is pretty historically inaccurate, which is not a con either, IDC!

Crash crash crash

And not only does it crash a lot, but say it crashes while playing level 13-4. Even thought I have saved the game at 13-3, before proceeding to 13-4, after the crash I am back at 13-1. Tacky tacky. Also, the scorekeeping is screwed up in the "practice" mode. It does not keep track of your highest score. Finally, when you move the shooter to the far right corner, it acts like a "hot corner" and pauses the game. So if you can deal with all of these frustrations, go ahead and buy it. Otherwise, nada.

Driver San Francisco
 –

Decent game, but...

I'm a big fan of open-world racing games and Driver: SF really delivers in this area. It's a huge city, it's a lot of fun to drive around and do the missions. The ability to just jump into any car on the road is a really neat addition and just enhances the fun.

However, there is a huge drawback: you cannot use a controller (such as the Xbox 360 controller) to play the game. Since I don't have a steering wheel, I couldn't check if that is supported, but I guess it wouldn't be.

If you don't mind playing using the keyboard, then you'll most likely get some good entertainment value for your $19.99. For me, however, this means that I only played it for 3-4 hours and now haven't played it in weeks.
