return to Ravenhearst

A real value. The puzzles are excellent and are difficult. I needed to use the walkthrough to get finished. The only thing I didn't like was the story. Weird and too depressing.

The Three Musketeers
 –

I liked the Windows version!

This game is a lot of fun. They do a nice job of turning the book (although I admit to not having read it at all recently) into a game. I really liked being able to own and ride horses as well as equipping weaponry, armor, etc. in traditional RPG manner. I have only played it on Windows but assuming the Mac version is up to the same standard, would recommend it.

Avernum 6
 –

Another great installment in the excellent series

Jeff Vogel has been creating CRPGs for more than a decade. Avernum VI is the latest installment of the long-running story of young adventurers exploring a unique underground world in crisis. Avernum is where the despotic empire long stuffed those people it did not want or could not control. In past installments one could fight the wars between the Empire and Avernum or the underground races and the struggling people. In Averum VI, the lizardlike Slith race is attacking while at the same time Mushrooms, the staple foodsource of the underworld, is falling to a blight.

Can you stop these twin threats to life underground? You start as simple soldiers and guards amd can either develop into the heroes of Avernum, or die.

Vogel's detailed, logical storylines, gigantic, highly detailed world and challenging tactical gameplay shine through and make this a game you can't finish in one sitting, but look forward to returning to play as soon as work, school and sleep allow.

Avernum 6
 –

An excellent and very detailed game

Avernum 6 is an incredibly detailed and in-depth role playing game. You play as a party of four members, which you can customise as you like (all fighters, all spellcasters, or a mix). You have to solve dozens of quests as well as numerous optional side quests.

There is masses of treasure to find all over the extensive game world. The storyline is really unique.

Pretty Good

Cool game and concept. In my opinion, the hard levels are too hard. I couldn't get through them. It would be nice if there was a little more balance to some of the guns...

Shaman Odyssey - Tropic Adventure
 –

Beautiful but Disappointing

I was excited to see that the game let me play in full 1920x1200 resolution, and in the hour demo made it seem like each level would be increasingly challenging.

Unfortunately, after purchasing the full game, I saw that the rest of the game, after the tutorial lessons, was extremely repetitive. The levels did not increase in difficulty, and I didn't have to replay a single level to move on. I finished the whole game in about 4 hours, and replay value is virtual nonexistant. You can replay levels to try to get a gold medal on each, but unfortunately, there's absolutely no guidance on how to get a better medal - is it time-based? point-based? - and no indication what kind of progress you're making towards the goal while you're playing.

FATE
 –

Fate

I love this game, and play it on a mini, and I've had very few problems. The one exception, is that I cannot "map" spells to my "F" keys, or anywhere else. I've got a new Apple keyboard, and I've looked on the web, and in the reviews here, but I don't find any mention of this problem. If anybody has any ideas, I'd appreciate some help. Other than that, I've played more than 35 hours, and I'm at level 44, and getting my butt kicked by the swarm surrounding the "boss". I'd love to be able to use multiple spells, but can't.

Good Fun for the price

Quite a complete game, with cute graphics and some very unique potions to mix.

The things you do may be repetitive, but the variations within each activity and the number of levels keep it going.

Hidden Wonders of the Depths

I got a little bored

Downloaded this game and only got half way through the second level. The mini games were repetitive and I lost interest. Some might like it, but just not for me. You stay within the same screen the entire time. Not my preference.

Fantastic Farm
 –

Enjoyable

Very enjoyable. Game play was fast and decent graphics. The whole "magic" doesn't really interfere with the farming which I liked. Good music. You also get to have animals and different machines to turn your crops into food. Try it out!

Mystery Case Files: Madame Fate
 –

Love love love

I love this game. It's one of the best hidden object games out there. The graphics are amazing which allows you to really get into the story. The different side show freaks along the way are very well done. The game is a little bit eerie which is a nice change from the cheesy seek and finds you normally get. Bottom Line: play this challenging game. It won't disappoint.

Azada: Ancient Magic
 –

Weak

The challenges are repetitive and, unlike the original, they don't actually get much harder as the game continues. Not even in the ballpark with the original... worth maybe half the price.

Great Variety

The variety of challenges is excellent and the increasing levels of difficulty are welcome and worth the work... and let me just say: thank god for online cheats!

Shaman Odyssey - Tropic Adventure
 –

Good for Beginner Players

I was a little disappointed in this game mostly because it was just extremely repetitive. Not too much going on to hold my interest for more than about the 4th level. The game play itself is rather tedious. Basically the "chief" has to go around the island again and again and again to collect herbs and shells which he then transforms into potions. You have to build the right combination of woodcutters, stonebuilders and farmers to get the end result before time runs out BUT there's no countdown timer and no way of knowing how well you're doing (except of there's a storm approaching and then there's a countdown timer).

Another thing is there is no way of knowing how many villagers you have and how many are needed for each chore.

The fonts they used are difficult to read with the "ones" looking like "twos" and that slowed me down a bit at times.

Bottom line? This is a good game for parents to play with their kids. The graphics are decent and the story line, although predictable, is cute for kids. It's a thinking game, but not for adults.

Create A Mall
 –

Lame

Can't believe I spend 10 mins of my life on this game. Really poor graphics, the game speed was super slow, and the music made my ears bleed. It was like if I played the board game Mall Madness...by myself.

Fix-it-up 2: World Tour
 –

Loved it but HATED it

I was going to just buy this one outright because this would have been my 2nd "Kate" game, but I decided to give it a try first. Boy oh boy am I glad I did! Saved me ten bucks! I absolutely WILL NOT buy this one! The concept is the same as the first Kate game and its a good one. It's challenging and has an interesting story line. BUT ... UGH!!! the "ambient" sounds are, to put it mildly, HORRIBLE! Every 3 seconds you hear a kid whining "can we go for ice cream?" or a lady asking "ready to work?" or a man screaming "ICE CREAM SANDWICHES!!" or a dog barking or a couple laughing or well, you get the idea. It's the most annoying, distracting (and ultimately "game ending") flaw I've ever encountered in a game (and I've downloaded and own over 40 games including all of the "Diner" and Dash games). You can only adjust the music or sounds not the ambient noise itself. Of the 60 minute free trial I was tempted to quit after about 20 minutes but I really like the game play itself so I grit my teeth and finished it. What a shame. Great game if you can play it with the sound off (which is an option but not one Im willing to pay ten dollars for).
