Dark Parables: The Thief and the Tinderbox Collector's Edition Icon
Great game except for ...
by Kare Hunol, USA - Jun 7th 2018

Beautiful, fun but it crashes the computer and I had to stop in Chapter 5 because of a glitch where the astrolabe refuses to accept Pluto, preventing further gameplay. So disappointing.

Druids - Battle of Magic Icon
If you like match 3, you'll like this game
by Kare Hunol, USA - Feb 2nd 2017

This game grew on me - I liked it better the longer I played it. Ended up playing it all the way through three times so far. Solid match 3 play, decent music - you can get a nice rhythm going. No need to build up a garden, solve puzzles, just match 3 all the way. Well worth the money.

Atlantis Quest Icon
Don't bother
by Kare Hunol, USA - Nov 29th 2016

High hopes for this game, but having played a few levels I can tell it's a pale reflection of the slightly more expensive but far better Call of Atlantis (which has a very similar feel - they are clearly related). Super annoying that you can't move until the calculations of your prior move are complete, which seriously impedes the rhythm of an avid M3 player. Sure it's nice to see those points add up but so far I've seen zero way to use them to buy anything. My headline sums it up - even on sale, don't bother with this game.

Chuzzle Icon
Ugh
by Kare Hunol, USA - Feb 2nd 2015

The blaring and dazzle is like bejeweled - fine if you like that kind of thing, but I want to zone out with a match3 rhythm. Worse is that it's not a traditional match3 - you don't swap adjacent items but have to swirl a whole row to match up your items. Even worse is the price. I bought this on sale but even so it was way more expensive than many excellent games. Overpriced and underfun, an awful combo.

Spooky Bonus Icon
Excellent match 3
by Kare Hunol, USA - Oct 27th 2014

Thoroughly enjoying this game - can't stay away! I love the spooky sounds. You can really get a rhythm going that has you hitting play for the next round. Excellent.

Tales of the Orient: The Rising Sun Icon
A nice twist to the classic match 3
by Kare Hunol, USA - Sep 22nd 2014

This game offers multiple modes and a few simple but excellent innovations. The option I chose gave a limited number of moves to win but did not time the levels. You can twist the board in various directions to maneuver the moves to have the greatest effect. Some levels were quite challenging. It demanded a more thoughtful, engaged approach which still brought the match 3 bliss.

The Treasures of Montezuma 4 Icon
Does not register wins correctly
by Kare Hunol, USA - Apr 7th 2014

I love this game for many reasons but am increasingly frustrated that it will log some wins only as silver. I exceed the goal with time on the clock, multiple times, but it stops play and declares the win as silver, not gold. Happening on multiple (but not all) levels, even after I win additional totems and replay the level, reboot the computer, etc. Driving me crazy!

Jewel Legends - Magical Kingdom Icon
Great for match 3 fans
by Kare Hunol, USA - Feb 7th 2014

Enjoying this game - nice music, great match 3 action: well paced, not to easy or too hard, no long pause while your points are counted. If you like match 3 for going zen, this is the best game I've found recently.

All My Gods Icon
Reasonably fun but becomes unwieldy
by Kare Hunol, USA - Jan 17th 2014

This game was fun for the first couple of hours. As the town grows, so does its unwieldy nature. You constantly get interrupted by the game itself, wanting you to set forth on a trading expedition or whatever. After a while, these interruptions were constant. I got tired of the game telling me where my attention should go. Too much of that in RL to want to deal with it in gameland.

Echoes of the Past: The Citadels of Time Collector's Edition Icon
Played twice and it froze the same place both times
by Kare Hunol, USA - Sep 10th 2012

I enjoyed this game immensely and probably would have given it five stars if it had permitted me to finish. Once you complete the clock, the game is supposed to continue to the finale. Both times I played, the game froze right after the clock was complete. On OS X 10.7.4, if it matters.

Tiny Token Empires Icon
Does not reward the learning curve
by Kare Hunol, USA - Apr 10th 2012

I enjoyed exploring this world until the different scenarios started to flake out. I eventually concluded it wasn't programed well enough for sustained play.

Mystery Legends: Beauty and the Beast Collector's Edition Icon
stellar!
by Kare Hunol, USA - Mar 18th 2012

The graphics are terrific, the story is solid, but the real entertainment is the excellent balance between the hidden objects and the puzzles. So nicely paced! Particularly outstanding is that the hidden objects are rationally placed in the setting. A sword in the blacksmith's hall but not at the tea table. SUPER entertainment, highest recommendation.

Letters From Nowhere Icon
reasonably entertaining
by Kare Hunol, USA - Mar 12th 2012

Decent enough HOG. Would have given it a better rating if you could skip the dialog, if you could move around, and if the story came to a resolution. Seriously - she doesn't find her husband? Stamp an "L" on this story's forehead.

Jewel Quest: The Sleepless Star Icon
my favorite jewel quest so far
by Kare Hunol, USA - Feb 13th 2012

The challenges for this match 3 game included both the familiar - locks, dropping keys and coins, screeching monkeys and the like - and the new. Unlike some earlier versions, you could earn "artifacts" to help. Each artifact gave a different boost, so some strategy was involved there as well. This game gave me many hours of enjoyable play.

Agatha Christie: Peril at End House Icon
worth purchase in a bundle
by Kare Hunol, USA - Jan 8th 2012

This is a solid HO game with simple puzzles, following the story line of an Agatha Christie mystery. Nothing special, but quite competently done and enjoyable for committed HO fan. Overpriced at $19.95, but if purchased in a bundle it is a game worth playing.

The Treasures of Montezuma 3 Icon
top notch
by Kare Hunol, USA - Dec 20th 2011

This is one of the top match-three games I've played. Solid all the way around. I've played through a couple times, and each time has been as much fun as the first. Highly recommended.

Ancient Secrets Icon
well done if unexceptional
by Kare Hunol, USA - Dec 20th 2011

Although the criticisms leveled are accurate - the gameplay is short, the hints are insistent, and the tasks simple - they don't give you the full picture. The story is coherent, the puzzles require thought, the adventure is well-paced. It was enjoyable! Plus, it actually quits when you tell it to quit, as opposed to almost every other game. Most games act surprised that you want to leave. The lack of that trivial annoyance was a relief!

Build-a-lot: The Elizabethan Era Icon
a step backward
by Kare Hunol, USA - Dec 16th 2011

Not nearly as good as Build-a-Lot 4: Power Source. Although the concept was promising, the execution was lacking. Conflicting music, strange black squares where lots should be . . . the programming was under par. Don't bother.

Dream Chronicles: The Book of Water Collector's Edition Icon
don't bother
by Kare Hunol, USA - Oct 27th 2011

pretty short and pretty boring - plus, the story is not particularly child-friendly. You see the father near death and although he recovers, you don't see him interacting in good health. The mother is missing and never shows up. Maybe life can bring these things, but that's no reason to have the whole story of the game hang on them.

Entertainment value is far far less than the price.
