Great Monster Trouble
 –

It needs some polish

The game is very nice to look at, but the controls are clunky. Moving the arrow to the edge of the screen doesn't keep scrolling your view smoothly, so you have to keep "bumping" it to look around at the edges which I want to do constantly to see which enemies are coming. You can also scroll out to get a bird's eye view, but you can't easily snatch the coins in the middle of battle from that view. The game doesn't let you move your men and build buildings while paused either, so you have to scramble to do that while playing. I understand that is part of the challenge, but I want a challenging game, not challenging controls, and I'd rather have time to think out my strategy and see if works, not lose a scenario because I'm not up to click-fest standards.

For instance to move a man you have to move your cursor to the bottom of the screen, select Move, then grab the guy, then pick his destination. That's fairly straightforward but if your destination is off the screen, like with the island map, then you have to bump the screen a few times to shift your view, or scroll out and scroll back in while doing all this. Hitting the "m" key for move would help make this faster (along with "w" for water!).

Similarly, I tried instinctively double-clicking a guy to grab and move him faster on multiple occasions, but that just selects him to show his health bar. Given the damage the guys were taking, along with fire damaging my buildings, I wanted at times to see which of my guys/buildings was most damaged. That'd be easier if a single key showed me all the health bars when I held it down or toggled it on & off.

BTW, I was playing on the difficulty setting it defaulted to, medium or whatever. Overall it's somewhat fun but I found the controls?well, clunky and at times non-intuitive. I think it could be a very fun game but right now I'm upset I spent $10 on something that feels unfinished.
