Avernum 5

Great game, but not for everyone

If you're not into retro games, this isn't for you. This is an update/remake of the old Exile games, hence all the "problems" reviewer D2 complains of. The graphics are not snazzy, but let's be clear: if you like open-ended, big-world games with great plotting and decent writing, you will like this one. If you need Flash and other bells and whistles, avoid, and leave Avernum to those who appreciate it.

Eschalon: Book I

I've been looking for something like this for years

Since the Wizardry franchise (apparently) ended, I've been looking for another old-school RPG. I almost passed this one up because it was solo, and I prefer parties, but I was wrong: solo really works in Eschalon. Beautiful graphics, good plots and quests, engaging if you want to do more than kill things. Give it a try!

Eschalon: Book II

Excellent old-style RPG

If you enjoyed playing games like Wizardry back in the day, give this one a try. Great classic graphics, quests, storyline, character development options, loot. Although you can finish it in as quickly as 20 hours, it can also last you over 80 hours if you explore every corner of the Eschalon world.
