Escape The Emerald Star
 –

Escaping from Abandoned Titanic Look-Alike

The most fascinating part of this game is that the ship I am supposed to escape from has a striking resemblance to the RMS Titanic, the ill-fated British ocean liner that sank iin the Atlantic Ocean during its maiden voyage to New York in April 1912, almost 100 years ago this year. Unlike the Titanic, the ship is colored green. Furthermore, the ship's name, Emerald Star seems to be a pun on the name of the actual company which operated the Titanic, The White Star Line. The other impression I got from playing this game is that in creating this game, the manufacturer probably completely changed the Titanic story completely to make it more appealing to gamers in time for the centennial of the Titanic disaster. Instead of escaping from a sinking ship, I am supposed to wake up and find myself on a completely abandoned oceanliner that is floating in the middle of the ocean.

The game is well designed, but may not be for those who prefer a hidden object game that has an exciting story line. Like other story-less straight hidden object games designed by PopCap Games, you must use your patience since it can be terribly monotonous and boring just traveling through the same scenes over and over again. The reward is that after the very last hidden object scene, the gamer is given the opportunity to construct a hot air balloon to escape from the ship.

Mystery P.I. - Stolen in San Francisco
 –

Finally a Mac version is released

I'd like to thank this store for finally releasing a Mac version of this game. It is pure delight to play a game set in San Francisco while living just a few miles east of San Francisco. Although it can be monotonous to play through 25 levels of hidden object games, it offers players the opportunity to play the part of a private investigator in trying to search for stolen gold. Believe me, you need great patience and endurance to visit the same scenes over and over again until you get the final part of operating a crane over a container ship and figuring out which container is worth inspecting to search for stolen gold. Scenes include famous sights like the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Chinatown, or the inside of a cablecar and a Muni Metro streetcar.
