Roads of Rome: Portals Collector's Edition
 –

Very fun and challenging, very buggy*****

I was a huge fan of the old Roads of Rome series and was delighted to see this title, with many of the old sound effects and musical flourishes even. This game is quite fun and challenging, with levels that take 20 minutes or so and require a lot of attempts and careful resource allocation. Unfortunately it is also INCREDIBLY buggy - if I play more than one level at a time it starts glitching graphically (white boxes popping up in place of some of the animations) and mechanically (mousing over a task no longer shows resource requirements, etc). Even though I've learned to quit the game and restart between levels, sometimes it gets going before I even finish a level. There's also at least one "extra" level that is locked when it shouldn't be (supposed to unlock after level 20, which I finished a long while back). It would be great to see some patching to stabilize this thing, but it's very fun nonetheless. Would be 5 stars for me without the glitches, which fortunately don't make it unplayable for me but are certainly very annoying.

The worker voices...make it stop*****

I love little games like this, and this one is right in my sweet spot (and I have enjoyed many games from this company). But I started up the demo and I CANNOT deal with the worker comments ("I'm already on the road" "There's a problem" etc etc). A number of games seem to have this now for some reason, and my lord it is so annoying. Sometimes I get used to it, sometimes there's (mercifully) an option to turn them off without losing all the other sounds (ambient sound is one reason I enjoy games like this; I find them relaxing), but with this one it is so overbearing and irritating that I'm noping out of the game. If I could turn the voices off I would buy this in a flash. Seems like a fun game otherwise.

Fun, but crashes regularly*****

Frustrating — I enjoy this game but it has crashed consistently the entire time I've played it. Through most of the gameplay I just dealt with it, because it would mostly crash after finishing a level, so I'd just reopen it. But now I'm on the "A" levels and I can't get through 6A because it won't stop crashing. Guess I'm done playing. :/ A shame because it really is a fun game. (I see in the reviews for the non-collector's edition that it's not just me.)
