Kerbal Space Program: Making History Icon
More flexibility and content
by bills6693, United Kingdom - Dec 31st 2018

A nice DLC that adds missions, extra content/components for your rocketeering needs, and nice visual customisation too. Still pales compared to the additions of mods but a nice bit of extra content and supports the developers too.

Bad North Icon
Small, lite tactics at an excellent level
by bills6693, United Kingdom - Dec 31st 2018

This game has a tight focus which serves it really well. Its management is light and serves just to give a little progression for your units as you fight island to island. It is a game that rewards taking risks - as long as you can make them pay off and don't overstretch. Your 3 unit types have amazing synergy with each other - any combination of 2 or 3 of them, of 2 of the same unit, etc all make for very different tactics and approaches to consider when fighting. And as the campaign progresses it doesn't lose focus and keeps you engaged the whole way through. Very highly recommended!

BATTLETECH Icon
Tactics and management fun
by bills6693, United Kingdom - Dec 31st 2018

Great game featuring (as expected) giant mechs fighting it out against each other. Manage multiple considerations as you try to pummel the enemy into dust and then play the management game to bring your soldiers to the next fight, coping with injuries and battle damage. A few issues exist with the campaign, namely that the story missions are unbalanced (the rewards are astronomically high compared to normal missions), there's no reason to bring smaller mechs along when bigger ones are available, and the loop can get a little easy, although DLC may bring some fixes to this.

Cities: Skylines - Parklife Icon
Fun park customisation
by bills6693, United Kingdom - Dec 31st 2018

Small but fun addition which brings to life the city parks that were missing before. Whilst I didn't find the nature reserves, zoos or theme parks as great (although they're still fun to add for sure), the city parks add an element that seemed to be missing before - no longer does your city have just a few plazas and huddles of trees, you can now build proper parks and gardens like you would find in most cities, larger blocks of land dedicated to the outdoors in the middle of your city.

Cities: Skylines - Content Creator Pack: European Suburbia Icon
Small additions but doesn't add up to much
by bills6693, United Kingdom - Dec 31st 2018

A few nice small additions but really doesn't add a huge amount to the game. Still worth picking up but certainly not a must-buy when you're looking at the Skylines DLC.

Cities: Skylines - Mass Transit Icon
More transport options, not much difference
by bills6693, United Kingdom - Dec 31st 2018

It adds a few less-common transport options but doesn't really change much up and the utility is fairly limited. I doubt you'll be converting to an all-blimp city anytime soon.

Cities: Skylines - Green Cities Icon
Unfeasible utopia - check
by bills6693, United Kingdom - Dec 31st 2018

This DLC adds the ability to make a green utopia, a thriving prosperous city for thousands of inhabitants with no adverse impact on the environment, great tax revenue, wonderful quality of life etc etc. While I guess it could be fun to build this perfect city, its misses the point of having to balance different tradeoffs and just gives the 'perfect option' button, which I think actually detracts from the fun of trying to build a good city.

Cities: Skylines - Industries Icon
Like parklife with factories
by bills6693, United Kingdom - Dec 31st 2018

An interesting DLC that adds new industrial areas that, like parklife, level up and have various new things you can produce and import/export/sell to your citizens. It does leave the question of what is the point in normal specialised industry areas now, but otherwise its an alright purchase for Cities Skylines.

Stellaris: Distant Stars Story Pack Icon
Small but interesting
by bills6693, United Kingdom - Dec 30th 2018

It's a small story pack that while not adding tons extra, has some interesting new anomalies, new place to explore with events and a bit of new music. Not a must buy but nice to flesh out a little extra exploration.

Surviving Mars - First Colony Edition Icon
Good game, authentic mixed with fun
by bills6693, United Kingdom - Oct 1st 2018

The game can be split into 2 parts - preparing you colony and bringing your humans. With a semi-random order of techs, varied terrain and resource distributions and different 'mysteries' each playthrough can present a somewhat different experience.

Although not 'realistic', the simulation is fun and makes for good gameplay, and the devs have already shown they are listening to feedback and have updated the game accordingly with requested features.

Stellaris: Apocalypse Icon
Some good additions supporting a great free update
by bills6693, United Kingdom - Mar 7th 2018

This DLC adds a few small but flavoursome additions to the game that are really there to complement the 2.0 Update which overhauled the way that travel, wars and territory (among other sweeping changes) work in the game. Although this DLC is definitely one of the less 'essential' pieces for this game, it is a nice addition and supports the continued development of the game which is worth it in itself, I believe.

Bomber Crew Icon
Engaging and fun, best without save-scumming!
by bills6693, United Kingdom - Feb 17th 2018

This game reminds me of games like FTL and XCOM, and is very fun. I tried it save-scumming but actually started again without doing that and found it more fun when accepting my losses.

The FTL element in my mind is the controlling of crew around the aircraft, moving them between stations and to go repair parts, put out fires etc. With crewmen going out on the wings, bringing up ammo to reload guns, and saving injured crewmates, it keeps you concentrating and on your toes.

The XCOM element comes from the game structure of going out on missions, then returning to base to upgrade your gear and aircraft between. With rewards from every mission, this generates an engaging and fun loop.

Additionally, you will take some losses. Sometimes crew will be downed and you can't save them all, or occasionally you will find yourself in so much trouble your plane crashes or does an emergency landing. This is generally from over-reaching and getting yourself into a situation you shouldn't have, including from selecting a mission you have been warned may be very dangerous (but may have higher rewards). This loss and rebuilding/recovering is another great element of the game and I would recommend against avoiding it like I did at first! The game is well balanced around you taking losses and recovering from this so fear not!

Stellaris: Humanoids Species Pack Icon
Some nice additional content
by bills6693, United Kingdom - Feb 17th 2018

This pack includes the headline features of new portraits and especially a whole new ship set, plus some nice extras like a few new (re-mixed) pieces of music to add to the soundtrack variety. Certainly not essential but in such a huge game some extra variety is certainly appreciated!
