STAR WARS™ - X-Wing Special Edition
 –

Great old game, but takes effort to make it work

I loved playing this game on my PowerPC back in the 90's. This is NOT the exact same as that version. It's the DOS version in a wrapper (Boxer) that allows you to play it on the Mac.

That said, it's still a great game, but it will take some effort to make it work well. Check out the forums on GOG.com for a great and helpful community. With their help and a LOT of online research, I'm playing this game on my MacBook Pro with a Thrustmaster HOTAS. Lots of fun.

My biggest complaint against Mac Game Store's version is that while it is the same as the GOG.com release, it doesn't have a GOG.com code with it, so you're missing out on their updates and downloads.

Still, I got it on sale for a ¼ of the cost, so all-in-all, it's a win.

May the Force be with you.

Great old game but takes effort to make it work well

This is port of another of my favorite flight/space sims from the 90's.
Still a great game, but this is NOT the same exact version as we played on PowerPC back in the day. This is a DOS version in a Boxer wrapper.

Still a good game, but you might have to dig around and tweak some things to make it run well. Check out the forums on GOG.com for a great and helpful community (for us Mac users too!)

Got it running well on my MacBook Pro with a Thrustmaster HOTAS. But it's not great right out of the box (so to speak).

My biggest complaint is that while this is GOG.com version, it doesn't come with their code, so you miss out on all the extra downloadable goodies. Still I got it on sale at a ¼ of the cost. So I guess I can't complain too much.

Assassin's Creed 2 Deluxe Edition
 –

A very poor port of a decent game

Assassin's Creed 2 was a very poor port. There were many odd lags in gameplay. I would reach an objective, and then have to wait for the game to realize I was there, and load the next part of the story.

This caused confusion and a failed mission on one occasion, because I beat up a guy—which was the objective—before the game specifically told me to.

There is no controller support. And even other options like joystick mapper don't work, because the game doesn't recognize the input. The on-screen prompts are horrible, because instead of telling you to press a certain key or mouse button, they indicate a colored circle that you are supposed to have figured out which key is mapped to it.

Add to this Ubisoft's requirement of a constant internet connection to play (and their buggy server that didn't recognize my internet connection for weeks), and you have an allround crappy port of what seemed like an otherwise interesting game.

Ubisoft needs to outsource their porting to companies that can do it right, like Feral or Aspyr.

BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea - Episode 2
 –

Makes up for Ep. 1!

This took the gameplay of BioShock Infinite and turned it on it's head. It becomes all about stealth. There's no way you'll win in shoot-out, but you get to sneak around instead. This helped wrap up a lot of the BioShock lore, and turned Episode 1 into a decent intro for THIS game.

BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea - Episode 1

It was cool... but could be better

This expansion pack was very short. And the reveal at the end was shocking, but not incredibly satisfying. (Ep. 2 more than made up for it, though).

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II

Going back to a classic

I played through this once, a long time ago (in an adolecence far, far away). It's great coming back to it on the Mac. I also downloaded the Restored Content mod through Steam. Excited to see how that will add to my experience.

BioShock Infinite Starter Pack

Got all of this on an Amazing sale!

I could not believe that I got ALL of this content for an amazing after Christmas sale of $10!
Still playing through the main game, but I love it so much, I'm looking forward to the playing the DLC chapters too.

I was hesitant about installing the Colombia's Finest DLC since it felt like cheating. But really, it's just a nice boost when you need it.

BioShock Infinite: Columbia's Finest

Nice Starter Boost

I was hesitant about installing this DLC (I got it in a bundle with the rest of the game and DLC). But after a little gameplay, I decided to go ahead.

Turns out, it doesn't give you ridiculous weapons at the start, but when you do find them, there's a nice bonus to them. And the 500 coins keeps you from worrying about spending at the beginning, but later on, you realize how little 500 is. The same goes for the 5 lockpicks.

Bottom line, if you don't have this, don't worry about it. But if you DO get this in a bundle with the rest of the DLC, go for it. It won't ruin the game, just give you a LITTLE edge at the start.

Tomb Raider: Underworld

Pretty fun—worth the price on sale

I got this game on sale for $5 and it was worth the price. There were some bugs and occassional issues that made me glad I didn't pay full-price.

Makes me wish that Tomb Raider: Legend had come to Mac.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition
 –

So far, so awesome

Almost finished with the main story in this game. There's nothing like having to sneak into a camp of fearsome Uruks to poison their grog, only to have them catch you, raise the alarm and you find yourself fighting off a legion of orcs!

Then there's the moment when you realize that you've won, and all of the orcs are slain or fleeing.

Another memorable feeling is when you realize that you can't win, so you have to run—only to realize that you can't run, they keep catching up to you. And suddenly, you know that you're going to die.

It's not the end, you've died before. But now you "have to" (not really, but if you've got any pride you do) hunt down the uruks responsible and avenge yourself. The feeling after hunting down those uruks who killed you and sending them back to the shadow is priceless.
