Even dumbing down the settings to zilch this game crashes constantly. If you do play, save after every - and that's every - time you complete a new line because you will lose everything you've done just when you think you're making progress. For anyone looking for mega-frustration for just $20, this is the game for you.
I have only played the hour demo so far but I'm loving it! I loved the first one and am glad this one came out. Just bought the full version and I'm going to go play now!!!!
I've played quite a few point and click adventure games, this being the worst. The game is created beautifully but the puzzles are very complex and not intuitive. The progress of the game takes way too much guesswork trying to figure out what next step is. And they have only finished the first level so it is pretty short to actually play (most of your time is spent being confused). More but easier puzzles would be better, and more obvious clues to secret rooms or hidden puzzles would help.
The travel section seems to be bugged-I cannot drag the red dot to cut the coconut. That makes the game impossible at a certain point. Other than that, it's a really interesting game and I like the dynamics of filling up the meters rather than going from level to level.
I quite enjoyed this game, and think that the price is more than fair. Seriously, to the reviewers I've seen, saying the game was too short.. IT COST $10!!! show me something else I can do (And actually enjoy) for 3+ hours, that only cost's me $10 (Insert obvious mum joke here)..
I do agree with crashlanding about the un-skippable mini games, they kind of detract a little from the rest of the game, but overall its good fun!!
I'd never played a computer based time-management game before, only ever on my iphone, and gotta say, I really enjoyed this one. It can get tricky at times, which just makes me try harder... :)
As a chess game, This game is quite good, But there are plenty of quite good chess games around, I was looking for something reminiscent of good old "Battle Chess" on the Amiga/C64/heaps of systems, This unfortunately isn't quite as good as that one, Graphically of course its heaps better, But the animations are over before you know it and there is only one animation for attacking no matter the unit.
The folder issue mentioned by nef601 has been fixed and you can drag it wherever you like and it will still run. However, The install is a bit ... Odd?. When you first mount the disk, it suggests you drag the folder into applications, however, that folder contains an installer program that you must run to install the game. No big deal, Just doubling up on the copying and then having to delete the installer program later.
All that being said, as a chess game, it is quite good, There is no waiting around while the AI thinks things through as you see in some games, And the AI also appears to be intelligent enough to set traps several moves in advance.
The mini games, and other game variations also give it some replay value, Having a campaign is also quite interesting, I haven't actually played this mode yet, but I'm looking forward to it.
I give it 4/5 stars as it should be rated it for what it is, not what I hoped it would be.
Great story. Most of all: you really have to pay attention and make the effort to solve the puzzles! No annoying obvious pre-hints, but if you really need (and want) in you can get the help you need. More of this please!
For everyone trying to run this on laptops, or complaining it won't run on your laptop, read the requirements. They explicitly state laptop and integrated video cards are not supported and only "may work."
Game runs great on desktops and is lots of fun. Good graphics, gameplay and story. Would recommend playing AC2 first however, as its a sequel to that.
I would really like this game but the mouse control is terrible. I have tried adjusting the mouse sensitivity, but it is still way off. Also, I think there should be some options for sound in the options. It doesn't seem to be displaying the scores after a game and doesn't offer a save option. On the whole I am disappointed because I really like the concept.
The game runs pretty well on my old mbp with Intel Core Dual P8800 2.66Ghz and Geforce 9600mgt. I can get more than 30fps with 1280x800, medium settings under Mac OS X 10.7 Developer Preview 3.
