Lifeless Planet Premier Edition
 –

Minimal but evocative

I love this game. It has a quality that few games have these days, an esthetic simplicity and evocative ambience. You really feel you're exploring on another planet. It presents enough challenges to keep you playing but without the constant tension of a shooter. Basically, you're exploring an alien planet and trying to solve its mysteries. (Or is it Earth after the apocalypse?) The graphics are beautifully rendered.

As a game it's mostly jumping from one platform or rock to another, sometimes over prodigious distances. One review I read suggested that all that platform jumping detracted from pure exploration, but I found the jumping to be essential to making it an interesting game, and not that hard when you get used to it. Well, there was one jump that I had to try about 20 times to get right, but most of the others are fairly easy.

There are no monsters and no shooting, you're pretty much alone and it's easy to fall to your death. There are also some deadly plants that want to impale you if you get too close. The one thing I didn't like was the darkened rooms where you have to use a headlamp and it's very hard to get the lamp pointed in the direction you want. Otherwise the puzzles are simple and intuitive. For some this game may be too minimal and boring, and for others, like me, it presents a wonderful sense of exploration and alien ambience. I wish there were more games like this.

Extreme Time Managment Game

Skip the long and boring opening story. There are numerous crops to grow and harvest.

Goats, sheep, chickens and peacocks have to be managed. The most interesting aspect is the complex machines which require numerous resources to produce many diffrent products like jam, juice necklaces and thread. Every night you have to chase off criminals who are trying to steal from you.

You might not want play this game all at once but may enjoy it long term and in smaller time frames over many months.

The Sims Medieval
 –

Well worth the money

Sim's Medieval is not your typical Sims game. You can only create one sim at a time and they have to be one of several "heroes" available. Your first Sim has to be either a king or queen, but after you've completed enough quests and earned enough points you can then create your next hero or heroine. You play only that Sim (until you've advanced a bit and can play multiple heroes in certain quests).

The type of hero you create will determine the way your kingdom will grow, strong in either military, intelligence, etc. A kingdom weak in any element will badly effect your community, but you may want that!

Buildings are created as you grow and choose which heroes you want to make. They are not customizable on the outside (except the grounds of the merchant and priest), but they are customizable on the inside both with items and colors/patterns.

The first kingdom you create will take a while to play, may or may not include all the heroes available (your choice) and will either pass or not pass the challenge. Passing the first challenge lets you move on to the next. (and there are a lot, and even more if you buy the 2nd ep)

There's quite a lot to this game, and although one of the main complaints has been the repetitious quests, they really can be refreshingly different when playing them with totally different personality sims and changing the way they react.

Sims can fall in love, marry and have a couple children. When your challenge is over, you do not lose your kingdom and can choose to continue playing it, or move on to the next challenge (but you can always come back to it). And in some cases, if the king/queen has an offspring, you can choose to play them as your new king/queen.
Make sure you register your game and update it.

I purchased this game when it first came out, and have never tired of it. I do stop playing for a while, but I always come back.

Really good

I was surprised by how good this game is. A real puzzle adventure, with a small handful of hidden-object puzzles. The various mini-games and puzzles are impressively diverse and clever, the story is actually engaging and interesting and the scenes well-drawn. More than once as I played it I actually caught myself smiling at how clever and entertaining the puzzles are. Highly recommended for puzzle-lovers

Return to Mysterious Island

Sets the standard

This is one of the first adventure games I played when I got into gaming and it set a high standard in my mind for the genre that is rarely attained. The game is clever, challenging, rich in environments and smart puzzles, with a diverse inventory and a wide array of puzzles. Really a lot of fun and you get your money's worth in terms of time and entertainment.

A note about the controls...

If you, like me, bought this based on Feral's success with other ports, especially in regards to controller support, beware. Though the game does give you an option to use an Xbox 360 controller, this does NOT mean that it will work just as well with a PS3 controller (as it does with, say, Feral's port of Borderlands). In short, though I could use all buttons possible to navigate the menu, not all worked with the actual gameplay. I couldn't jump, and if I couldn't jump, I could play the game (at least, not with my PS3 controller, my prefered method for gameplay).

Good enough to play more than once!

I really liked the setting of this one - a remote laboratory - and actually liked it enough to play it through again after a couple of years. There is diverse and developed cast of characters and many puzzles, some really tough. Recommended.

River Simulator 2012
 –

Relaxing, pleasant

It's not a very complex game - you pilot an array of river craft down the rivers of Germany - but you get to play with the different controls for speed and direction as well as navigation and collision-avoidance tools. The cities are rendered quite nicely as well. There isn't much of an objective - you deliver cargoes of various kinds up and down the river - but it provides some nice, peaceful escapism!

LEVEL 22, Gary's Misadventures
 –

Mediocre

To be fair, the game description didn't promise much more than what you get: an arcade-style game of trying to sneak through 22 levels without getting caught. There are a few puzzles to solve along the way but probably the biggest defect is how far back you have to go every time you get caught. I just couldn't take replaying the same inane steps over and over because there are too few save points, so I just gave up. Otherwise I might have been up to making my way through methodically.
