Star Wars: Empire at War puts the power to command an entire war for the Star Wars galaxy in the hands of players, giving them the freedom to determine how they play the game within completely scalable and accessible gameplay. Set a few years before the events of Episode IV A New Hope, LucasArts’ Empire at War lets players wage war on the ground and in space, as well as experience the creation of the Rebel Alliance, the strengthening of the Empire and the beginnings of the Galactic Civil War.

Using an entirely new game engine created by the Las Vegas-based developer Petroglyph, Empire at War features beautifully rendered land and space battles set on memorable planets such as Yavin IV, Tatooine and Dagobah, as well as never-before-seen environments taken directly from the Star Wars films and expanded universe novels. In the game, players choose to join either the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Empire, building and setting up tactical forces to unleash upon the enemy in real-time 3D. Memorable Star Wars hero characters can be brought into the action to help turn the tide of the battle as players build, manage and upgrade their space and ground-based units, vehicles, troops and base structures.
  • Real-time strategy game takes place between the two trilogies through "A New Hope"
  • Play with a multitude of heroes for each side, each with their own abilities
  • Control the battle between Rebel and Empire forces on both land and in space
  • Dual-layered game play requires you to manage both strategic and tactical levels
  • Play campaign across more than 40 planets, or play multiplayer with up to 8 players

This would be a great game if I could actually play it with out it crashing. I haven't been able to complete a full game yet. To add insult to injury when you save the game it won't reload with our crashing

  3. Star Wars: Empire at War
    by WantonWarrior908, USA - Oct 10th 2012

For any Star Wars fan this game is great, bringing back all the best parts of the star wars galaxy, the planets, units, and battles just like the movies and more, but for those looking for a deep real time strategy experience this may not be the game for you. The land battles offer very little in the choices of strategic options with just a small handful of units at a time and a quick teching up and rushing strategy will always work on the AI opponents. The space battles offer a bit more as every unit from x wing to star destroyer may be countered by another unit and to succeed in battle one must use a mixed force of units but once again, the strategic options offered are few and battles often become repetitive. The graphics at highest settings still make the game look very outdated and take away from the potential experience. For the biggest of star wars fans, Empire at War is all you could have asked for and more but for those seeking a deep Real Time Strategy experience, i might recommend the Total War titles and Ruse which offer more than Empire at War does in replay value, visuals, and strategic depth that define the game as a real time strategy experience
