Amazing Story Line, Horrible Controls

For starters, watch some of the playthroughs of this game. I think Mahalo does one that accurately sums up the in-game controls.
Story-line: Its amazing. They did such a good job with keeping true to the Back to the Future franchise that you feel that you're playing an interactive movie sequel. Which, I suppose, was the intention. The voice acting is great, the dialogue is really good and I love all the throwbacks they put into the game. I had to watch the series over again because of the nostalgia it induced.
Game-play: Horrid, is that the word? They were clucky, annoying as hell at time, and very unintuitive. Honestly, I wanted to give the game 2 stars because of the controls. If the story-line had been sub par, this game would have not been worth purchasing. You click somewhere, he will refuse to go. You use the keyboard controls and he does something else. He gets caught on invisible in-game artifacts, runs very slow to the next point, while running will sometimes do his own thing and you have to fight to correct him or something else entirely. If they make a patch for this game I hope they fix the controls.
Game-play: Linear. It gives you the allusion to choice making, but you don't have it. Go to point a->point b-> point c. You are playing a movie, which isn't a bad thing. As I stated, the story line makes the game completely worth it. Its a cheap way to see the next movie installment. But, thats just it. There IS not choice. You choose from a list of decisions until you get the right decision then the game continues. The game will let you choose for 15 minutes of dialogue that only has the sole purpose of letting you know that its not the right dialogue and doesn't really lend itself to the storyline at all, until you chose the right combination to advance the storyline. Sometimes, I wished, that they would just let you watch the game, it would have been less irritating. I found myself in the 3rd episode just spamming for "hints" because trying to guess what the hell I was supposed to do was too frustrating. And thats what it was, guessing. Some of the stuff were things you pick up in game and solve while choosing dialogue. Most, is just random chance, "can you guess which answer is correct."
Overall: The controls are dismal, the gameplay the definition of linear, but the storyline is stellar. 1-2 stars if the storyline hadn't been so good, but, it was. So 4 stars it is.
