Combined strategic AND tactical air-war...
...is the promise inherent in THE FEW's (TF) sales-pitch.
And while the devs' approach feels spot-on, there is still a lot of potential:
WWII has been serving as background for a myriad of games of all genres, with a good number of them being some sort of „Strategy"-related.
Albeit, the number of games embracing the topic of "WWII Aerial Combat" from a strategic perspective is rather limited. Concernig the "Battle Of Britain", there's even only ONE other strategy-game I know of (aptly called ‚BoB'; I stand to be corrected).
TF promises to push that limit by adding the operational level, in a fashion similar to the „Ace Patrol"-series. Maybe, the devs of TF should have taken a closer look at that series of games, before publishing TF. TF's interface feels clumsy, there's no tutorial, and the player's tactical options are limited.
‚Limited' is also the keyword for the strategic portion of the game: Not much to do other than allocating planes & AA-guns...
Verdict: Without any major update/-grade, up to now the best part of TF is its most interesting historic setting.
